So the Bills finally listened to their long suffering fans and canned coach Dick Jauron Tuesday afternoon, as first blogged about by Dem Jones. I’m sure most sane people feel this was at least 9 months late, but at least owner Ralph Wilson appears to be paying attention to his fan base, even in his 90’s.  Ahhhh, the 90’s. What a great time that was to be a Bills fan.  We had the coach (Marv Levy), the GMs (Bill Polian and John Butler) the players (Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Darryl Talley, Bruce Smith etc.), we had the playoffs (“PLAYOFFS, WHAT PLAYOFFS”?), we had 4 consecutive Super Bowl teams!  Man, that seems like another era.  Specifically, another decade, which of course it was.  Leading to my point: a new decade is upon us as 2009 winds down. A decade of losing will fade and hopefully lead into a new decade of fun and hope for Bills fans.  Who knows how well Perry Fewell will do as coach?  He doesn’t have the players that we had during the glory, whorey days of Super Bowls and playoff runs. The cupboard seems a bit empty of talent.  But the new coach brings at least a fresh style…hope…maybe some energy on the sidelines. And, he can’t do any worse than the coaches the Bills tried and failed with in the recent past (Gregg Williams, Mike Mularky, Jauron).  So let’s give him a shot. If the Bills luck out and win some games, good for coach Fewell.  If not, we start a new decade with a brand new coach, hopefully one who has a playoff and Super Bowl background, like Gruden, Dungy, Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren…hell there seems to be more unemployed winning Super Bowl coaches than there is employed Super Bowl coaches.  So, with Ralph rightfully pulling the plug on the Jauron era, maybe that ends the decade on a positive note. (by the way, if you want to argue if ‘09 is really the last year of the decade or ‘10, I don’t really care…it’s just a good reason to proclaim the decade of failure over). God bless all Bills fan for remaining loyal and still filling the stadium on game day even though there hasn’t been much to cheer for.  And God bless those loyal soldiers who fill their boots everyday to do work that started on a very sad note on a perfectly sunny day in NYC much earlier in this decade on September 11th, 2001. God bless our troops!

Last year I watched the week one Monday Night games from the Keno seats outside the Caesar’ s sportsbook in Vegas (I was on my laptop so I couldn’ t sit in the sportsbook). I had missed my red- eye flight home on Sunday night so decided to stick around…
