What a mess this whole H1N1 debacle has turned out to be.  On Thursday, hundreds of people stood out in the cold rain for hours waiting to receive their shot and hoping they won’t be exposed to the Swine Flu.  Things seemed a bit disorganized at the former IQ Mall, now also the former Medley Center.  Here’s 5 locations to get a free shot Saturday from 10a-6p:

>> Blue Cross Arena

>> Lake Ridge Center (all the former malls in one in IQ)

>> Penfield Town Hall

>> West End Business Center on West Ave. in the city

>> First Bible Baptist Church in Hilton

Speaking of shots, keep you eyes open out in the country this weekend because gun shooting season gets underway for the hunters Saturday morning at sunrise.  White tail deer will be on the run from Crockett and all the Barney Fyfes out there.  Don’t shoot yourself in the leg with your one bullet…

And speaking of the country, I’ll be wandering out to Elba in Genesee County Saturday night to enjoy the fine music of my onion farmers from Elba in the band known as Savage Cabbage.  I’ll be posted at the Stumblin Inn in beautiful downtown Elba for a night with my boy Droid and all the hard working farmers from the country who are loyal to the Workday Buzz.  Shoot me now Lord cuz I’m goin’ to Heaven…or Elba, whichever comes first!

And speaking of Heaven, I hope the Lord keeps an eye out for our ladies and gents from the military who face deadly shots on a daily basis during this holday season. God bless our troops.

So the Bills finally listened to their long suffering fans and canned coach Dick Jauron Tuesday afternoon, as first blogged about by Dem Jones. I’m sure most sane people feel this was at least 9 months late, but at least owner Ralph Wilson appears to be paying attention to his fan base, even in his 90’s.  Ahhhh, the 90’s. What a great time that was to be a Bills fan.  We had the coach (Marv Levy), the GMs (Bill Polian and John Butler) the players (Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Darryl Talley, Bruce Smith etc.), we had the playoffs (”PLAYOFFS, WHAT PLAYOFFS”?), we had 4 consecutive Super Bowl teams!  Man, that seems like another era.  Specifically, another decade, which of course it was.  Leading to my point: a new decade is upon us as 2009 winds down. A decade of losing will fade and hopefully lead into a new decade of fun and hope for Bills fans.  Who knows how well Perry Fewell will do as coach?  He doesn’t have the players that we had during the glory, whorey days of Super Bowls and playoff runs. The cupboard seems a bit empty of talent.  But the new coach brings at least a fresh style…hope…maybe some energy on the sidelines. And, he can’t do any worse than the coaches the Bills tried and failed with in the recent past (Gregg Williams, Mike Mularky, Jauron).  So let’s give him a shot. If the Bills luck out and win some games, good for coach Fewell.  If not, we start a new decade with a brand new coach, hopefully one who has a playoff and Super Bowl background, like Gruden, Dungy, Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren…hell there seems to be more unemployed winning Super Bowl coaches than there is employed Super Bowl coaches.  So, with Ralph rightfully pulling the plug on the Jauron era, maybe that ends the decade on a positive note. (by the way, if you want to argue if ‘09 is really the last year of the decade or ‘10, I don’t really care…it’s just a good reason to proclaim the decade of failure over). God bless all Bills fan for remaining loyal and still filling the stadium on game day even though there hasn’t been much to cheer for.  And God bless those loyal soldiers who fill their boots everyday to do work that started on a very sad note on a perfectly sunny day in NYC much earlier in this decade on September 11th, 2001. God bless our troops!

I was watching the NBC Sunday Night Football game last night at the Sports Page on Monroe Ave. with Keith Friel of the Razorsharks basketball team.  He and I made a friendly wager on the game because Keith is a life long New England fan.  Winner gets free dinner and drinks at our favorite restaurant Grinnells on Monroe in Brighton.  So, 2 minutes to go, Patriots up by 6 and appear to be on their way to delivering the Colts their first loss of the season.  4th down and 2 yards to go at the Patriots own 29-yard-line.  98% of the NFL coaches would elect to punt the ball so the Colts would need to go 70 -80 yards to pull out the game in the last 2 minutes.  But genius coach Bill Belichick decides to go for the first down.  Long story short> the Colts stop the Pats, get the ball at the 30 and of course drive for the winning touchdown and win by one!  I won my bet and will dine on Keith’s MVP tab….but more importantly, my theory that the NFL is rigged was proven again.  Everything that happened at that moment in the game made absolutly no sense at all.  Mingia, what a league!  Maybe even the Bills wouldn’t have screwed that one up!

So, while drooling in anticipation of my free meal to come at Grinnells, let’s not forget the most important leasson today: God bless our troops!  Nothin’ rigged about that!

Courage

Posted in: Uncategorized

My bud Connor Henderson, stud hoops player for St. John Fisher alerted me to a cool event going on @ SJF this Sunday.  Thanks to the inspiration of the kids in Dr. Todd Harrison’s class, the first Cardinal Race for Courage will begin Sunday morning at 10am on the Fish campus.  All proceeds will benefit the great work done at Camp Good Days & Special Times, one of my fave places.  So that might inspire you to commit some $ to the cause, or there’s another alterior motive if you’re still a Bills fan. Dr. Todd teams up with my good bud Steve Saluzzo to run the Buffalo Bills training camp at SJF every summer. So, make a donation, participate in the event or volunteer to help and I’m sure you’ll get some good suck up points with the good ol’ Doc Todd!  There will be a certified 5K run, a 2K campus walk and a kids fun run. Lots of fun and refreshments to follow. Help out my boy Connor and Dr. Todd’s prized students by logging onto: www.cardinalraceforcourage.com. God bless ‘em for helping the Camp Good Days kids and God bless our troops.

America is what we are today thanks to our veterans.  Thanks to every member of each branch of the military for what you have done to make America strong. My dad Thomas Hamilton Kennedy fought on the tiny island of Pelilou, did time in Guadacanal and survived to tell many stories about what sacrifice many have made for the U.S.A.  My uncle Bob was a pilot for the Air Force. They are better men than I can ever become.  Thanks to all of our veterans and current active members of the military.  Enjoy a free meal today by clicking here:  www.applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx  God bless our troops!

Wednesday Nov. 4, 2009 I received via mail a notice from the City of Rochester Parking Violations Bureau informing me that I received a parking ticket on Friday Oct. 23, 2009 at 11:14am on East Ave. Imagine my surprise because there is absolutely no chance that could be correct, due to the following reasons: a) I was inside the Entercom Radio building from 9:15am until 3:30pm on 10/23/09, as witnessed by my boss and numerous co-workers. b) The Entercom Radio HQ is located at the corner of Commercial St. and Mill St., in the area affectionately known as High Falls.  This area is on the opposite side of the river from East. Ave. downtown.  c) I broadcast my show The Workday Buzz Mon. – Fri. from 10am-3pm. d) My vehicle is always parked right outside our Buzz studio at a metered parking spot so I can keep a close eye on it, due to the fact there has been a rash of vehicle break-ins in this area. e) I am not married so have no wife who drives my vehicle and I NEVER let anyone drive it. I am the sole driver. Therefore, there obviously was a mistake made when this ticket was attributed to my vehicle. I am organizing my witness list because it is time to fight City Hall and “the man” (known as the Parking Violations Bureau).  If you were listening to me on 10/23/09 between 11am and 11:30am, feel free to reply and I’ll add you to my witness list for the epic trial to come. God bless our workday listeners and God bless our troops.

Special Olympics has always been one of my pet causes. Today you can grab some chow from a cop and help out the Special Olympians at the same time.  Here’s the scoop:

APPLEBEE’S TEAMS UP WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT

TO WIN BIG FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Greater Rochester, New York – On Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 from 4:30-8:30pm, law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to “serve” and protect to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays to assist servers at the Applebee’s across Western New York!  Donations will benefit Special Olympics New York and the Law Enforcement Torch Run®.  The Torch Run is part of a year-round, grassroots fundraising campaign by law enforcement agencies to benefit their local Special Olympics Program.  New York State Police, Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Rochester Police Department, New York State Department of Corrections, and New York State Parole are among others who will be participating in this unique fundraising event.

Law Enforcement will be on hand at 6 Applebee’s across The Greater Rochester Area and will be greeting customers and helping out the wait staff.  Law Enforcement will be in action at more than 30 Applebee’s locations statewide in hopes to raise thousands of dollars for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.

Special Olympics is an international year-round program of sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.  More than 47,000 athletes in New York train and compete in 22 Olympic-type summer and winter sports.  There are thousands of athletes from the Western New York are who participate in training clubs and competitions throughout the year.  Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with other athletes, their families and the community.  There is no cost to participate in Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fund-raising and public-awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world. Each year officers carry the Flame of Hope through the streets of their hometowns and countries and deliver it to their local, state, or national Special Olympics Games.

In 2008, more than $1 million was raised for the athletes of Special Olympics New York through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Vote

Posted in: Uncategorized

After barely surviving Halloween weekend, I’m still rusty from the tour from Roch>Canandaigua>Geneseo Fri.>Upper Monroe>East End Sat.>Olies in Summerville Sun. for football and baseball.  As the recovery winds down, one word on this Election Day: VOTE!  If you don’t, you’ve got nothing to bitch about. Many in Afghanistan and Iraq have died for the right to vote, and our military stands guard to assist them. God bless our troops.

Hope you enjoy your extra hour of partying this weekend!  Yes, don’t forget to change your clock back at 2am Sunday morning.  Whoever came up with this idea years ago to set the clocks at 2am must have been a boozer so they could get another hour under their belt.  It’s a little spooky that the changeover occurs on Halloween night.  Like we need another hour of stupidity on this night!  It doesn’t happen very often so live large and leave somebody in charge of the wheel.

Here’s a cute idea for a Halloween costume. While scanning the tube for the World Series pre-game last night, I stumbled upon Entertainment Tonight. Mary Hart is still there doing celebrity interviews.  Her chit-chat Thursday night was with Chastity Bono….I mean Chaz Bono.  You see Sonny and Cher’s adorable little girl from their glory days on TV has grown up to become a……man named Chaz.  sHE has udergone a sex change. Or, as Mary Hart now calls it “a gender re-assignment’!  Gender re-assignment?  Who re-assigned those parts?  Chaz has been taking hormone shots since March, had her/his breasts removed and has quite the husky voice now. Hey, whatever trips your trigger tiger.  Just remember when you open your door Saturday night, if you hear a deep throated TRICK OR TREAT, you never know who/what could be standing in front of you and what’s under that costume.  Happy Halloweeny.

To those much less freaky amongst us, let’s remember our troops this weekend who everyday face real threats and spooky situations.  We been losing too many of our courageous military this week.  God bless our troops in harm’s way.

Thanks to my listeners in the southern tier who listen to us on-line here @ rochesterbuzz.com.  They tipped me off Thursday to the big fire in Alfred, displacing 13 students.  No worries though cuz the liquor store was saved!  Firefighters do have their priorities!  Luckily no one was injured thanks to those smoke eaters doing their jobs.  I had reports on the Buzz throughout my show, and here’s the full scoop courstesy of the local paper down in Alfred. www.eveningtribune.com.   I love how our listeners are spread all over the globe and y’all keep me updated on what’s happening while you’re tuned into the Buzz. I think this internet thing is gonna stick around for awhile…

While we’re at it, can the Octomom please fade away? Have you seen her Halloween family photo.  I won’t display it here cuz I’m sick of her 15 minutes of fame.  She dressed herself up as a pregnant nun and her 8 kids as little devils. How cute, huh?   What’s the over/under on how many years of therapy those poor kids are going to be subjected to?

Yankees really need a win tonight, don’t they?  I watched the whole game last night and pitcher Cliff Lee from the Phillies was in total command, and just needed the help of Chase Utley’s two homers to take the advantage in the World Series 1-0.  After tonight, the next 3 games shift to Philly so the Yanks better pull it out or many fans will take the pipe (A*Rod, you listening while you’re playing with Kate Hudson?).  And kids, a little tip from your boy Mayor: STAY OFF THE PIPE!  Do the right thing, be courageous.  Like our military. We lost more soldiers yesterday in Afghanistan, more families grieving today.  God bless our troops.
