Lawmakers down state want to make gun owners register their weapons every 3-5 years in an effort to have greater control over weapons. This is a result, they say, of the Binghamton shootings.

On the surface I thought this might be a good idea, mostly because it’s a way to make money and help the deficit. I also get the intent of such a law… limit idiots from having guns.

After thinking about it though, I HATE this idea. Despite my huge concerns for people with guns, it is our right to carry them. See the 2nd amendment of our constitution. Don’t roll your eyes, it’s a big deal.

If they pass a law that says you have to register your gun every 5 years then what do you, the responsible gun owner, get in return? The state will say they’ll use the new income to help the budget and fund state projects, but how many times have they thrown taxes at us and then pissed it all away on non-sense? Too many.

I like compromise. If you want gun owners to re-register every 5 years, fine… but how about something in return? Allow gun owners less restriction on what they can own. If a guy wants a fully automatic AK47,  then let him (or her) have it, and in return make them register it consistently. That way the people get their guns and the government gets their oversight and money. Look, I know for gun owners this is not a perfect situation, but compromise is key with a lot of political issues. Don’t ask for the farm, but ask for some of the cows.

The other thing that blows me away is the people who introduced this bill are State Senator Eric Schneiderman, 31st district of Manhattan, and Assemblywoman Amy Pauling, 88th District of Westchester County. Both are down state politicians who are completely out of touch with what happens upstate regarding this issue. It’s easy to make policy when you are in rich communities that have had these laws for quite some time. To insist upon upstate that this is the proper policy for them is insulting. New York City’s issues are completely different from Rochester’s. We have a high murder rate because of drugs and ILLEGAL gun purchasing, something the current system does nothing to solve. We have more rural areas and much less crowding. We also get over taxed, under paid, and pay fee after fee after fee. Enough is enough.

This sort of policy making is short sighted and is another example of the state taking more of your rights and money away.

I know the intent is to stop a crazy perosn, like the one in Binghamton, from shooting a place up. That’s a noble cause. The reality is you can’t stop crazy people from being crazy. You can take everyone’s gun away and guns will still end up in a crazy person’s hand. Or they’ll come up with a different method all together. Don’t punish the many for the actions of a few. I’d also like to point out that this proposed law will solve nothing in terms of violence. Most gun violence is a result of illegally possessing a gun. Ugh, headache.

Have any of you noticed how pathetic the local political ads are? Every time elections come around all we hear are negative ads making just straight up ballsy accusations that usually are based so loosely on fact.

If all of the local candidates did these these things, and the ads are based on fact, I can’t help but think that none of them are quality people. As a voter, that maked me check out and not even care. Granted, that’s not true, I know who I’m voting for locally and why, but I can’t imagine any of you are very motivated to really see who stands for what. Why take a few minutes out of your day to look them up when all they do is show ads that hate on their opponent?

a note: I wanted to post my videos of singles mingle today but in my drunken stooper I have misplaced my handheld pocket cam. When I find it I will post it. LOL my bad…

I got this through the message board earlier today and liked it… but didn’t want to use space on the board…

Sub: Broke Republican

Pat….any republican that can honestly say the bailout plan was not the most socialistic thing to ever hit Washington in 50 years in not being truthful to themselves. Any conservative who can’t see George Bush broke the country by spending does not know what the word “conservative” means. The strange part of it all is the word “liberal”. Real conservatives believe they will become gay just by mentioning the word. Funny how the “n” word is so free spoken amongst them……JD

Your first point: the Republicans are so broken that they forgot there own beliefs and the reasons why they are Republicans and more importantly, economic conservatives (There is a diffrence, not all Republicans are conservatives). Republicans, whether conservative, liberal, or moderate, believe beyond a shadow of a doubt two things: less government control and influencve and more State’s rights.  We’ve seen the complete opposite from President Bush who’s been trying to outlaw abortion for 8 years on the fedweral level and gives states a hard time about allowing for gay marriage. The proper answer from him shouldn’t be to allow or disallow either of these examples, but rather let each state make iut’s own judgment. If a vast majority show that they feel one way on these or any issues, then you talk about making it a nationwide federal law.

That being said, I’m proud of the Repubicans today for standing up to this rediculous bailoiut plan that wasn’t strict enough from the get go.  You have to have STRICT regulation of Wall Street at this point if you want to avoid this from happening again, and you ahve to have strict regulation because we, as Americans, are simply idiots when it comes to borrowing and spending.

I want to hit something about the debate on Friday: McCain likes the classic Republican idea that tax returns will solve a lot of our personal financial problems. Under his plan, assuming it would ever go into play, he wants to give back every American $5000 or so based on the assumption the original bailout would work. That looks good on  papoer and I’d like to sit here and pretend it’s the responsible thing to do, but it’s not unless we also regulate. When everyone got their $600 from the government this year a good chunk of us spent it one debt, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy those debts and a good chunk of us bought crap like TVs made by Japanese companies. $5k is a nice shiny number and everyone deserves it, but for a whole loot fo you it won’t pay your credit card bills off. Let’s say you have $10k of credfit debt that you can only make minimum payments on. You get $5k from the givernment down the road and use it all on your credit card debt. Great! However you still can only pay the minimum payments on what is left over. In oher words, your in less debt technically, but your day to day avaiable money is still the same as well as your 25% interest rate. Giving money back looks pretty, but doesn’t work for a lot of people.

I like Obama here, because he would rather regulat enot onloy CEO’s but alos the system itself. That sounds socialist to some but there is a difference between control and regulation. I still say you give people McCain’s $5k but with that you find away to limit CEO’s from gutting the system like they have by either capping their earnings with percentages or by having rules that a board of directors of a company and the CEO must follow strictly. See this is what amazes me… if you’re a private company then you’r enot owned by the common person… do as you please. If you’re a public company and areoned by someone like myself, who invests in your company because I believe in it and want to make money with you by investing in it, how can a board of directors be allowed to take advantage of me? Not enough rules.

Don’t worry kids… everything is going to be OK, but you all best buckle down and stop spending today.

Back to the message post… when it comes to your comment about language I say bravo lol. Stupid rednecks.

I’m going to post this e-mail I got today while out on sick leave. Kim and Beck must have been talking about politics and must have brought up that I’m an Obama supporter, because here’s what I got from someone…

“are you gonna vote for the American war hero or the Muslim?

If you think this way, you’re an idiot and I hope you never vote for anything. This isn’t because it’s pro Obama… look if you like McCain because you believe in what he stands for I completely respect you. I poke fun at the man but at the end of the day he’s done some great things for our country politically and simply astonishing things in his military service. But if you’re voting for him because you think Obama is a Muslim then you might as well vote for McCain because he’s white and you hate Black people.

Obama is not a Muslim… which is not the point at all. What if he were a Muslim? News Flash to every idiot out there, and there seems to be a lot of you: MUSLIMS ARE NOT TERRORISTS. They are peaceful people just like Chrisitans. Another news flash to the same idiots and beyond: religion does not define you as a politicians or a person for that matter. Believe whatever you want to believe, but a good person is a good person… someone’s belief in Jesus may grant them salvation, but it doesn’t make them a good person or a good politician.

Please, I’m asking you all to do this for not me but for your own good: vote for who ever you want to vote for. I don’t care if McCain wins if that’s really what people want… but vote for him or Obama because you know what they stand for and agree with it. If you need help with this, go to this website:

http://ontheissues.org

I go to this site because it is non-biased and fact based. This isn’t some liberal jargon I’m feeding you all, it’s a God honest factual site that makes it a lot easier to know who your voting for… not only for president, but both vice presidents and all Branches up for election are listed and broken down here. It’s a great freaking site. Please give it 15 minutes of your time and educate yoiurselves for the love of God.

I’ll make it even easier.. here’s Obama’s history and stances:

http://ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm

And now here is McCain’s positions:

http://ontheissues.org/John_McCain.htm

This is me on my knees begging you all to not be idiots and vote blindly like you’ve been for the last decade (and way beyond). I have based my support on Obama on where he stands in comparison to what I believe we need to do as a country. I do not see eye to eye with him on every front… after all I’m economically conservative… that might give some of you a heart attack because most of you think I’m a leftist liberal hippy. Not true. But on social issues, national defense, the war on terror, I do agree with Obama. With McCain, I only agree on some of his domestic spending agendas, and a little with his social stances, but not at all with the war and national defense. It has nothing to do with him being old or Republican… let’s not forget if I could have it my way, Ron Paul would be President…  (Click here to see where he stands)

Oh, and I’m tired of people saying I’ll grow out of my political beliefs and eventually always vote republican. That’s not narrow minded and idiotic decision making at all (sarcasm).

PS: I responded to the person who wrote that e-mail to me twice. Both times I received this: Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists

You send me an e-mail and you don’t allow for a response… I rest my case.

One last bit of business. I want to apologize to all Vietnam veterans. When you boys came home, people who claimed to be liberals pissed right in your face. They embarrassed this nation with their behavior. God bless you and all ex-military personal for Vetetans Outreach Programs to help soldiers of today. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service, and am sorry people treated you in the way they did. I am only 26… I wasn’t there, but I haven’t forgotten you. That being said, I know we are in an unpopular war. Soon these boys will be coming home. If you hate the war, which I am included in that group, remember that the men and women in our armed services are doing what they are told to do. They are not to blaim for this war, they are doing their duty. Regardless of your position you need to respect them and recognize them as heroes… because they are.

So I was watching the opening ceremonies to the Olympics last night while I was waiting for a table at The Garland House.  I was really impressed!  Just a stunning display of color, coordination, and beauty.  Not surprising: after all, all the cool things we own are made in China!  While it was gorgeous, it was also very intimidating.  Here’s a culture that’s what? 2500 years old?  They have SOOO much history, so many traditions, and a whole lot of discipline.  They are literally America’s polar opposite.  I’m so happy we DON’T live in that type of culture and have the freedoms we have.  Everything about that ceremony just shrieked dominance and power, which I’m sure we do our fair share of too… it’s humbling to see it from someone else though.  It felt like they weren’t really gearing up for the Olympic games, but rather World War 3… scary.

Less than 24 hours in though we had our first tragedy.  Our volleyball coach’s in-laws we stabbed, one dieing, while visiting a tourist site.  You can read the story HERE…

- Remember Brian Robinson?  Of course you do!  He’s of course on our sister station WCMF now and doing a spectacular job.  It’s his Birthday, so I am going down to Spender’s to celebrate tonight (Saturday).  I miss the B-Rob on the Buzz, though Dem Jones has rocked the afternoon drive (and the ratings prove it).

- Kimberly and Beck are back Monday!  Have a great weekend!!!

-Late Breaking news… Comedian Bernie Mac Died.  Don’t know much about it other then he had Pneumonia.  I think we forget too often how serious Pneumonia can be.  Seriously, if you’re sick, GO TO YOUR DOCTOR before it turns into something like that.  In any event, myheart goes out to his family, friends, and many fans… here’s a clip…

WARNING: BAD LANGUAGE…

All this week on the Breakfast Buzz we’ve talked about the Hilton softball player, Dan Andrews, being blind side sucker punched by Sean Sanders, and incident that killed Andrews and has Sanders sitting in the slammer. We’ve talked to Andrew’s Fiancee and Sanders pregnant girlfriend. We’ve talked with the family and friends of both individuals as well. You can hear all of this on our podcast (CLICK HERE).

I’ve played adult league hockey for years, up until recently that is (anyone need a skater?). I’ve never been a shy person on the ice either; I’ll poke you, talk trash, slash you, push you, hit you, t name a few. I would never ever hit someone from behind though. I learned tat at an ealry age playing for the Buffalo Hornets back home in a squirt house league. A guy punched my teammate in the head 3 times, so I came from across the cie and checked the guy from behind into the boards. I was thrown out of the game and benched an additional game. After a lecture from my coach and even worse, my Dad, it somehow clicked in my head: “I could have really hurt that guy.” So from that point on I have never intentionally hit someone from behind. Granted, it’s hockey, I’ve come from no where to lay a guy out, but not illegally.

I’ve been in my share of tussels too, but they’ve always stayed on the ice. Once it was over, you went home and back to your family, friends and job. As a guy in Fredonia, Andy, once told me, working is more important that getting hurt in a scuffle.

I say all thise because it is so difficult for me to wrap my head around what happened the day Andrews was killed. Adult sports have an unwritten ettiquette to them. Yes, people will talk trash and yes there will be an a-hole that will go over the line. Yes, when someone goes after your daughter with verbal insults you have a right to confront the person, so long as it is face to face, man to man. And if you are the a-hole, and you get a black eye for it, you got what you deserved. You don’t deserve death or serious injury, but you deserve to have your glasses broken and a black eye. As a teammate of that a-hole, you ahve the right to defend him: meaning you can pull the guy off or stop him from harming your teammate, ocne again without killing or severly injuring a guy.

Here’s the part that shocks me… All of this happened; Dan went after an a-hole who got too intense during the game, which I get. They got in a scuffle, which Dan started because the guy was calling his daughter, who was keeping score at the game, fat amoung other insults. I get that too. The fight is ended by teammates pulling people back. Everyone calms down, the situation is becoming stable. If the story is correct, what happens next breaks all rules of conduct and the unwritten etiquette of sportsmanship. What’s the exactly? You don’t throw intentional cheap shots at people, no matter what. If youw ant to fight, fight (as stupid of an idea as that is), but do it man to man. As teammates, you should try to stop this and defend your teammate… but you never retaliate. You save it for the next game where you will get even by outplaying your opponent. Sean Sanders retaliated. The fight was over, the situation was stable, and not only did he break the rules by throwing a blind sides cheapshot, but he did in retaliation. You never retaliate like that. If he had been trying to pull Dan off the a-hole and an accident happened such as he tried literally pulling him off and Dan were to fall back and land funny, I’d have plenty of sympathy for Sean. Instead a street mentaility took over and as what commonly happens when you use tat mentality, somthing really bad happened.

A guy lost his life because someone broke the etiquette, relatiated, and didn’t even have the bollocks to go up to Dan man to man and challenge. He didn’t even turn him to a punch, he went right for the kill shot.

Yes, it’s possible he didn’t mean to kill Dan, but the reality is, and moral of this story is, you don’t need a knife, baseball bat, gun or weapon of any kind to kill a person. Your fists could be deadly weapons, and the law doesn’t care of it was an accident. It doesn’t matter he used a fist, he might have well used a gun: same result, same punishment (if not even worse).

 - Don Imus is an idiot. Is he a racist? Nah, I don’t think he is. I think he’s a product of the changing times. He’s old… wicked old. So old that I don’t think he really knows how to stay relavent and PC at the same time anymore. For example, when he called the Rutgers ladies “nappy headed ho’s” it was aweful. I don’t think he was or is a racist though, I think he was trying to make a statement like you’d hear in most rap videos these days. He was trying to stay fresh with his terminology and lingo and instead came off as racist. In the most recent case, I think he is telling the truth: he was trying to say that Adam Jones (formerly Pacman) was being racially profiled. Why would he do this? Because that way it looks like he is hip to the idea that blacks are singled out when it comes to crime. Tat way he looks relevant and more importantly, not racist. Instead he bumbled over his words and looks like an idiot.

There comes a time in this business where you get too old to be in it for 4 hours a day as the focal point. It’s kind of like when a 40 something is doing talk radio on a teen station. It’s like Kurt Loder on MTV. Kurt was a pioneer on MTV back in the 80s, but now he’s old. They try making him look young, but if they were to feature him on something like TRL (Total Request Live) everyday he would struggle to stay relevant because he’s no longer young and simply wouldn’t get it. So instead, he does little briefs for MTV news. It works: he’s an adult looking guy, older, and more credible in young people’s eyes in terms of news. He got too old for the full time on air gig so e evolved to a smaller on air, bigger behind the scenes role.

Imus is in a similar boat. His audience is older, but still younger than him. He can no longer find the true edge of what is pushing the envelope and instead  falls over the edge right into Al Sharpton’s greedy and eager hands. He just can’t do it anymore.  Don’t get me wrong: radio legend. There comes a time however what you have to look yourself in the mirror and accept what is reality: You’re too old. Move over, let the young guys take the reigns gramps.

Now, that being said, the good news for Imus is WABC isn’t going to can him. I applaud them for that, because Imus really did nothing wrong aside from be an idiot, which everyone in radio is inherently anyway. Plus, they are smart enough to know this negativity can only bring a ratings boost.  That may seem unethical to a lot of you who find Imus as a racist, but in my producer mind it’s genius and you run with it because that’s talk radio. There is very little ethic in talk radio: by design there’s a whole lot of controversy and differing opinions. There is no such thing as fair and balanced media. If you want non-biased go to NPR, PBS, or C-SPAN, respectfully. Even “nice” shows have controversy and a bias. So in terms of this industry, Imus’ crap is genius. In terms of being just a listener though, which I can take a step back and give my opinion as a listener and not producer, he’s just an old and busted idiot who should retire.

-Hausman challenged my age theory this morning, with good reason too. He said that if Imus is just too old to do his job, then what about himself and the other people in our building who are not exactly young? Do all of them have to be removed? It was great because he caught me off guard and I didn’t have a good answer. Now I do: at some point, yes, you do have to be removed. Radio is 10 years behind where it is supposed to be because old money bags and old thinking put us in this position. One of the problems with the industry is we have a lack of forward thinking and too many people in the good old boys club.

Hausman is a great talent and an amazing newsman. I respect the hell out him and always try to learn something from him, though he has no idea I do that. I look up to him, but we all have a shelf life. Is he expired? NO, not at all, but there are people in this market working on certain shows, that will be left nameless, who simply don’t relate well to their audience. Because of their past success they continue on geting paid way more then that are worth to basically delay the inevitable and hurt the industry. These people need to be removed in favor of developing younger, fresher, quicker, more tech savvy talents who exist in over abundance: they just need the chance. There are a TON of young talents in this building alone who could be awesome with their own show and the right direction. Believe it or not, I’m NOT talking about me either, I’m just OK at best. So my answer to Haus… love ya, but move over old man! LOL Not you personally though buddy, you rock.

Of course.. I’m a 26 year old punk ass who will someday be sitting in Hausman’s seat making his argument.

See this article… CLICK HERE.

Florida is not my favorite state. They can’t count votes, it’s full of rich over privileged fakes, hurricanes are no fun, and their regular droughts make large parts of the state prone to fires. While I’m not a big fan of the state, I wish nothing bad on the people there, and the fact is these fires can ruin or end people’s lives.

So when I read this article I was disgusted. Despite regular droughts Celine Dion used 6.5 MILLION gallons of water last year. So houses are burning, people and wildlife are dieing, but Celine Dion’s grass is green. After all the grass is always greener for people who do nothing but sing songs that haven’t been big in a decade.

Miss Dion is being pointed at but other celebs, such as Tiger Woods, are also being mentioned as huge water wasters living in Florida.

This is really a problem because once again the rich get what they want while the average person burns for it, literally. When is enough enough with these people? How is anyone allowed to be rich AND an a**hole? They earned theirmoney and have a right to luxury, I get that and respect that right, but they don’t have a rght to water their flowers while other people lose their homes. They don’t have a right to waste natural resources to these types of levels. It would be one thing if people like Celine Dion were trying to water their lawns to avoid fire, which I’m sure plays a part, but there is no need to use that much water when it could be used to put the fires out.

There is a bigger issue here to me, which is the rich continue to live in beyond reasonable means and you get to worry about the cost of gas and if you can make it to work. I’m not saying the rich shouldn’t have nice things, but when their lifestyle starts to affect the lives of people in a negative way, like people dieing or losing their homes, then something needs to be done. What’s that stupid quote? With great power comes great responsibility? Well with lots of money comes lots of responsibility. The average person is the reason you are rich because chances are they bought what you were selling, and presto! You’re rich and famous. You don’t have to give everyone a pat on the back or your money, but you should pay enough attention to your properties to know if your sucking up a valuable resource that could be saving people.
