Have you ever seen the movie High Fidelity? It’s probably one of my favorite films of all time, and not just because Jack Black is friggin’ hilarious in it. In my opinion it is the ultimate emotional guy movie. One of my favorite things about the movie is how they make top 5 lists for everything. That being said, I wanted to give you my top 5 movies from the 1990’s. Now I know High Fidelity is not a 90’s movie, but that decade had so many good ones that I couldn’t help but ponder the question… so here are my top 5 movies from the 1990’s…

5. The Proffesional 1994

4. Office Space 1999

3. The Sandlot 1993

2. Braveheart 1995

1. Fight Club 1999

If you haven’t had a chance to see the movie “Burn After Reading” I recommend that you do. It’s full of VERY dark humor, which I usually like, but this movie does something that I’ve never experienced before. I actually was bored and generally disliked the film up until the conclusion. The movie, as the Coen brothers say, is about what happens when you mix idiots from the CIA with idiots who work in a gym. The film is so ridiculous that you spend much of it trying to figure out if there is a point to it. Trust me when I say you really won’t get the point until the very last scene of the movie. Once I saw the whole film, I went from not being amused to laughing hysterically at all the things I originally didn’t laugh at. The ending somehow makes the movie funny, after the fact. It’s a very strange experience that I think you should look into, if you really like movies anyway. Here’s a preview, but WARNING: ADULT LANGUAGE.

First of all, we had Joe Brucato in studio yesterday. He was one of the best acts we’ve had in studio for Unsigned Talent. His music was great, but even better was his attitude. The minute I met this guy he felt like family! Check him out…

Also, I got an e-mail from Rachel in Baton Rouge, LA… check out the snow they got!!!!!

So I was watching the opening ceremonies to the Olympics last night while I was waiting for a table at The Garland House.  I was really impressed!  Just a stunning display of color, coordination, and beauty.  Not surprising: after all, all the cool things we own are made in China!  While it was gorgeous, it was also very intimidating.  Here’s a culture that’s what? 2500 years old?  They have SOOO much history, so many traditions, and a whole lot of discipline.  They are literally America’s polar opposite.  I’m so happy we DON’T live in that type of culture and have the freedoms we have.  Everything about that ceremony just shrieked dominance and power, which I’m sure we do our fair share of too… it’s humbling to see it from someone else though.  It felt like they weren’t really gearing up for the Olympic games, but rather World War 3… scary.

Less than 24 hours in though we had our first tragedy.  Our volleyball coach’s in-laws we stabbed, one dieing, while visiting a tourist site.  You can read the story HERE…

- Remember Brian Robinson?  Of course you do!  He’s of course on our sister station WCMF now and doing a spectacular job.  It’s his Birthday, so I am going down to Spender’s to celebrate tonight (Saturday).  I miss the B-Rob on the Buzz, though Dem Jones has rocked the afternoon drive (and the ratings prove it).

- Kimberly and Beck are back Monday!  Have a great weekend!!!

-Late Breaking news… Comedian Bernie Mac Died.  Don’t know much about it other then he had Pneumonia.  I think we forget too often how serious Pneumonia can be.  Seriously, if you’re sick, GO TO YOUR DOCTOR before it turns into something like that.  In any event, myheart goes out to his family, friends, and many fans… here’s a clip…

If you don’t know who the Foo Fighters are then you either live in a cave in Tibet or are simply deaf and haven’t really heard a whole lot, which is completely understandable. “My Hero,” “Everlong,” “Learn to Fly,” “Monkey Wrench,” “All My Life,” Big Me” are all songs that have been at or near the top of the billboards over the years, and not just in the rock catagory either. They’ve won multiple Grammy’s as well. Next to Green Day, in my opinion, there is no bigger rock band that spans more age groups then the Foo Fighters.

That being said, I was uber excited to go and see them at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochesterlast night. It is rare for them to come here, and rare for a band of this magnitude to be in the city and not stuck out in the middle of no where. The show the Foo’s put on was amazing. Dave Grohl has so much energy; he’s like a time bomb. I found myself asking how can a guy have so much energy, for nearly 2 hours, after being on the road for over a year now? Compared to every other rock front man I’ve ever seen, and there’s been a respectable amount, no one (minus the front man of Flogging Molly) has had more energy on stage. It felt like the beginning of a tour rather then the end of one. The man screams and bangs his head all night long. He shreds the guitar with every ounce of energy he has, and has a ball doing it. In terms of a pure rock show,  don’t know that you could get a better one musically.

Here’s the bad part of the show: the lack of attendance. The arena was probably 80% full… for the FOO FIGHTERS. What???? I understand it’s a Monday night, I really do. I get up for work every day at 2am…. trust me I get it. It is rare for me to do anything in the evening during the week, let alone go to a rock show. Still, how is the arena not 90-100% full for such a huge act? On top of that, we aren’t the craziest lot, though I will excuse that one because the age groups were various and it was a Monday after yet another event filled Rochester weekend.

I found myself thinking last night that maybe the Foo’s aren’t that big anymore… maybe they’ve lost their impact… Maybe rock is dead. Then I come to find out they have sold out the Meadowlands tonight which has to hold around 80-90k. So they can fill an outdoor super stadiumon a Tuesday night but only sell a little over half of Blue Cross Arena? WHAT?!?!?!?!?

I guess it really speaks for our economy as well as the lack of youth in the community. Maybe it wasn’t promoted enough, though how much promotion do you really need to do for the FOO FIGHTERS?!?!?!?

I was let down by the fact we didn’t even come close to selling out, which probably sealed the fate of them ever coming back here. Never the less, it was probably one of the best rock shows you could have ever seen in Rochester. If you missed it, which you probably did, you should feel really bad: it was amazing.

See this article… CLICK HERE.

Florida is not my favorite state. They can’t count votes, it’s full of rich over privileged fakes, hurricanes are no fun, and their regular droughts make large parts of the state prone to fires. While I’m not a big fan of the state, I wish nothing bad on the people there, and the fact is these fires can ruin or end people’s lives.

So when I read this article I was disgusted. Despite regular droughts Celine Dion used 6.5 MILLION gallons of water last year. So houses are burning, people and wildlife are dieing, but Celine Dion’s grass is green. After all the grass is always greener for people who do nothing but sing songs that haven’t been big in a decade.

Miss Dion is being pointed at but other celebs, such as Tiger Woods, are also being mentioned as huge water wasters living in Florida.

This is really a problem because once again the rich get what they want while the average person burns for it, literally. When is enough enough with these people? How is anyone allowed to be rich AND an a**hole? They earned theirmoney and have a right to luxury, I get that and respect that right, but they don’t have a rght to water their flowers while other people lose their homes. They don’t have a right to waste natural resources to these types of levels. It would be one thing if people like Celine Dion were trying to water their lawns to avoid fire, which I’m sure plays a part, but there is no need to use that much water when it could be used to put the fires out.

There is a bigger issue here to me, which is the rich continue to live in beyond reasonable means and you get to worry about the cost of gas and if you can make it to work. I’m not saying the rich shouldn’t have nice things, but when their lifestyle starts to affect the lives of people in a negative way, like people dieing or losing their homes, then something needs to be done. What’s that stupid quote? With great power comes great responsibility? Well with lots of money comes lots of responsibility. The average person is the reason you are rich because chances are they bought what you were selling, and presto! You’re rich and famous. You don’t have to give everyone a pat on the back or your money, but you should pay enough attention to your properties to know if your sucking up a valuable resource that could be saving people.

He was my childhood idol: Indiana Jones. I begged and pleaded with my mother to buy me a bull whip so I too could swing from branches and ward off Nazis. Of course, being a fat kid, swinging wasn’t exactly my thing but still…

So when I heard the news of a 4th film I naturally exploded with excitement. How would Indy look after all these years? Would there still be Nazis? What could you possibly follow up the cup of Christ with? Would Sean Connery be in the new one? Who would be his love interest?

Months went by in anticipation, and this past Sunday I finally got to see what I’ve been waiting 19 years to see, and I’m here to tell you that the movie is a lot of fun and worth seeing.

But there is a problem.

It’s not with Harrison Ford. The man is in great shape and still plays Indy to perfection. He’s suave, witty, and the smartest grunt in the history of movie action stars.

It’s not Shia LeBoef. He was fun, and played the kid role just fine. It wasn’t ground breaking, but it’s an action flick.

It’s not Karen Allen, the actress from the first film who I haven’t seen on a big screen in what seems an eternity. Again nothing special, but decent.

It’s not the Crystal Skulls (or should I say, skull). Without giving much away, the ending is a bit… different. I mean the crystal skulls themselves, and you can look this up, have been said to not be made by human hands… I’ll stop there.

The problem with the movie isn’t really the script, all though there were probably some better ways to do it.

Here’s the problem: George Lucas.

George is a special effects genious, there’s no debating that. Star Wars and first 3 Indy films were visual wonders, but Indy 4 falls into the trap that the Star Wars prequills fell in to: there is WAY too much special effects and CGI. Too many green screens. Too much polish. Too many big explosions. TOO MUCH LUCAS.

The movie suffers by not giving you that grainy and dirty feeling the first 3 films did. Everything is too bright and well pronounced, especially the ending. Again without giving it away, the ending is 100% CGI special effects to a point of sickness, which is all Lucas’ doing. Granted, special effects filled endings are not at all foreign to this series, and neither are out of this world happenings, but I really felt they should have done much less and left the mind guessing a little at the end of this one.

The first half of this film makes you believe this may jsut be the best Indy film yet. The second half however makes you think there is something missing… perhaps effort. Spielberg is better than this, and should have gotten more out of all this.

Again, entertaining for sure, but not the best of the series. I do hope they’ll make another one, and judging by the sales I don’t doubt they will.

Overal: 7.5/10 stars (for an action adventure movie)

Mulder and Scully are back… wooo. Can’t you just feel my enthusiasm? yay.

That of course is what we call sarcasm.

I used to be a huge fan of the X-Files. It was compelling, suspenseful, full of twists, and nerdy in the best of ways. Even the first movie, which was released what feels like 30 years ago, was very good. Then the show got, well, weird. Mulder vanished and that dude from Terminator 2 filled in which was gay. I literally lost interest when Mulder vanished and stopped watching the show all together. It’s been so long since I’ve seen an episode that I’ve basically forgotten most the details.

So now we have a new film coming out and I feel like it’s 5 years (at least) too late.

Check out the new trailer by CLICKING HERE. I thought the trailer would make me excited, but honestly, it was typical and not all that interesting to me. It’s the same old hype build up as if I’m supposed to surprised when they show what the movie is and freak out. Uninspired and uninteresting to me. What do you guys think??
