After a couple weeks of that I said to myself, “self, we need a bike so we can get to work faster and get around the city too.” So I bought a bike! I admit, I totally cheaped out and went to Target because, well, it was a lot cheaper than other places to be honest with you. I always try to buy from local vendors I simply couldn’t afford to. Never the less, I love my new bike!

I moved this past weekend back to downtown Rochester. My wife and I had been living in Greece for the last year and a half, and while Greece is a very convenient place with so many places to shop, we both missed the craziness that comes with the city.

Over 3 years ago I moved from Buffalo to Rochester and for my first year lived downtown on East avenue… 4 stories directly above Sallinger’s actually. Talk about a dream for a bachelor LOL. I could open my window and there was East End Fest.

I liked it, and my wife is a fan of it… so now we’re back. I can walk to work (I’m .3 miles away according to google maps). Shopping is a drive but everything is close.

I will post some pictures soon so check back!

This Tattoo is of a Siberian Blue Robin and a black crow. So what’s the meaning? The robin is in honor of my mother, whose name was Robin (and thus the good in my life). The black crow symbolizes the opposite of what is good in my life, and thus shows balance. Duality is one of my core beliefs, and as you may have been able to tell, the birds are in the shape of a Yin Yang to further symbolize duality. To take the point even further, water and fire are both present.

I want to thank JET from LOVE/HATE Tattoo. Not only was he extremely professional, amazingly fast, and very tolerant of my weak ass (I almost passed out 5 minutes in), he is simply an amazing artist. My wife, Jessi, also got herself a really nice tat (her second) which is also shown to the left.

I got a CREEPY e-mail from a listener named Tim. Now I get a lot of e-mails from people asking me an assortment of things and generally speaking, if you do happen to know me well, I’ll talk about almost anything. However, this is just strange.

Here’s his e-mail…

Good Morning Pat,

Congratulations on your recent nuptuals. I really enjoy listing to the
morning show and hearing all the antics that go on. My question is to you,
You have mentioned in the past that you are a “pumper” and when you talk
about your stuff you refer to your manhood as your “penis”! I too love to
call my manhood “penis” I am a proud chronic masturbator and I was wondering
if you are also? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply

Now Here’s My Reply… note I am trying to be nice…

LOL what guy isn’t???

In all seriousness no, I am not. I don’t recall calling myself a “pumper”
and generally speaking I use specifically the word penis because most radio
hosts and personalities always use some stupid slang word instead.

Thanks for listening and thanks for the e-mail Tim!

Sincerely,

Pat the Producer

Here’s his reply to my reply…

Hey Pat,

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly. Yes most men are masturbators!!
I thought there was a time when you indicated that you “pump” or have
pumped, anyway I was just very curious as there is a large group of men (and
internet sites) where men of all types share their need to take masturbation
deeper into bliss and the use of “clinical” terms are often used. I just
thought that you may be one of my like minded buddies. Thanks again for your
reply and I look forward to listing to the Breakfast Buzz on the web, as I
no longer live in Rochester.

CREEPY…

I picked up a couple of albums this weekend and I’m really impressed by both…

First of all, if you like some good old fashion Rock music you need to check out Cage the Elephant. Their self titled album is out in every store that sells CD’s and on iTunes and Amazon right now, and it is fantastic. Great CD to drive to and throw on while you’re drinking with friends. It’s like Jet with a southern twist… great stuff.

The other album I purchased is a little unconventional for our rock fans, but you might enjoy it. It’s K’naan, and the name of his album is “Troubadour.” I had the pleasure of meeting him on Tuesday as he was in our building for our sister station, 98PXY. Man, this guy is good. He infuses rap, hip hop, reggae and a pinch of rock and rhymes lyrical soul that only someone who has seen more oppression and violence then most of us ever will. He grew up in Somalia and you can here the influence in his lyrics. A message I like in his music is that all the “gangstas” who think they have it rough on Avenue D or any other ghetto in the United States wouldn’t last 5 minutes in a place like war torn Somalia. 50 Cents’ pain and struggle is nothing compared to the people of Somalia and several other African nations. It’s a refreshing sound in the rap and hip hop genre that reminds me that it can in fact be excellent when someone actually tries.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that what is usually the funniest part of the article is the headline of it. Sometimes I would rather have NOT read the story and only read the headline because it was just funnier that way.

Here are 5 Funny Headlines I read today. If you click on them, it takes you to the actual story as well. I’ve also included where I read these funny headlines so if you want to search for more, you can. It’s great way to waste time in your cublicle or finish the day after busting your ass on the line…

I am told there are some people nationally who disagree with his review of the recent Judas Priest/Whitesnake show at CMAC. For your enjoyment, and so you don’t have to navigate google, I have posted a link to the story HERE (CLICK).

Some people seem to have not heard ME clearly this morning when we were talking about how much the guests at my wedding gave me for a present. Kimberly and Beck asked me to list what everyone from the station gave to me.

For the record, and as I SAID ON THE AIR, I would NEVER give this information. ALL the people who came to my wedding were VERY generous.

I didn’t invite people to my wedding because I thought they might give lots of money, I invited them because I love and care about them, plain and simple.

It’s totally classless to discuss what people gave you. What they gave is what they could afford, and if that was nothing then so be it. I’m just happy they were there.

Somehow today people didn’t hear me say this and started ripping on me… that’s because they were hearing Kimberly blab her mouth and not me. There is a BIG difference people! LOL.

We had pictures of my wedding on Kimberly and Beck’s page, but while I was gone on my honeymoon I was told that one of the pictures was causing some issues with my family. Regardless of what ANYONE might think of them being taken down you should all know that the most important people to me are my family. So if they are not happy, then I am 100% miserable. So I had them taken down.

In classic management style, they took them all down which is not what I wanted or asked for, but such is life. Therefore, here are a few pictures from our big day! Ironically they are NOT from Frank DeBlase because I don’t have those yet actually (I’ve only been in town 24 hours). These are a few shots from the random table cameras we had laying about…

In 5 days I will be MARRIED!!! Let me answer some of the most common and overly asked questions I get…

1. Are you excited?

- No. Not at all. Why would I be excited about the biggest day of my young life? That’s sarcasm, of course I’m excited!!!

2. Are you nervous?

- If you’re nervous about getting married then why are you getting married? I’m a little nervous about the day going well, but really there’s little I can do about that… it will be great I’m sure.

3. Are you ready?

-This question drives me nuts! No, I’m not ready. Are we supposed to have a venue for this? We didn’t really invite anyone either… LOL yes we are ready… or at least as ready as we’re going to be.

4. How many days until the big day?

- I don’t have a problem with this question, unless you’re my boss who has asked me literally every day for the last 2 weeks.

I’m just having fun… I love that people care enough to ask me about the wedding, even if the questions are repetitive. Thanks to everyone for caring!

I don’t do this enough… hopefully this is a new trend. I will rate albums on a scale of 1 – 5 stars (creative, right?). A 1 star rating meaning the album is so bad that I would rather listen to a baby scream into my ear than listen to this again. A 5 meaning it is an album that is above and beyond anything in any genre currently. If I really like the album it will get a 4 rating.

311 is a band that I hated the first time I heard them back in the mid 1990’s. Rock mixed with Rap mixed with Reggae? Too weird dude. That is until one day when I was working as a prep cook for a country club and I heard the song “Large in the Margin.” While this was one of 311’s better tunes, many people thought I was crazy for having this be my favorite 311 song with hits like “Down,” “Beautiful Disaster,” “All Mixed Up,” and “Come Original.” For whatever reason though it was “Large in the Margin” that sold me, and I haven’t looked back since.

I own every 311 album. Yes, every. From their Live album to “Dammit.” I even own the disaster that is their last album “Don’t Tread On Me;” an album I deemed so bad that I considered throwing it in the garbage. However, despite my distaste, I kept it to keep the collection complete. Which brings us to their latest adventure in Rasticore music, “Uplifter.”

I haven’t liked most of 311’s work in the 21st century. It’s been missing the edge that made them so anti-authority and fun at the same time. You could feel they got old once Y2K struck. Gone were the weed smoking punks that rapped and rocked their way into a cannabis induced coma of hits, and in were dads with wives and maturity… ew. Needless to say my hopes were not high for this album (pardon the pun).

Right off the bat they break into a classic 311 radio hit, “Hey You.” Heavy guitars lead into a poppy reggae pluck that bleed harmonizing vocals and a nice balance of heavy and poppy. The song isn’t a breakthrough, but it seems to be a mix of the good things they used to do and the few good things they do now. It’s a good tune. Predictable and far from blowing away your musical mind, but good.

Next we have “It’s Alright,” a song that feels nice and islandy. It’s sways back and forth with fairly predictable lyrics while making you think of fruity drinks, when all of a sudden they kick in the heavy guitars for the chorus. What’s nice about this song is it’s hard enough for the rocker but poppy enough for a chick. I’m sensing some old 311 coming through so far… this is good!

Track 4 is a tune called “Golden Sunlight.” This song sucks. Nick Hexum singing like this is just not interesting, pretty, or entertaining. It’s just a boring tune. If you’re a super fan you’ll say you like it. If you’re the casual music lover that we all are, you probably won’t come back to this track.

Track 5, “India Ink,” might be my favorite 311 song since 1999. This is the 311 I miss: Heavy, aggressive, and harmonic, but in a completely non-traditional way that only they can accomplish. The chorus will ring through your mind all day (in a good way). I find myself constantly going back to listen to it, which I haven’t done with a 311 song since their cover of The Cure’s “Love Song” for that Adam Sandler flick. This may not be a radio hit, because the good songs never are, but old school 311 fans should be able to appreciate this tune. It’s repetitive lyrically, but it’s pleasing to listen to if you like a medium tempo and heavy guitar.

Track 7, “Too Much Too Fast,” is a little too poppy for me when it comes to 311.

Track 8, “Never Ending Summer,” has a lame intro, but the song is pretty cool. Some classic 311 yet again that takes me back to 1997’s “Transistor” album.

“Jackpot”(track 11) is a tune that finally sees S.A. Martinez rap on the album. Can someone explain to me why for the last decade S.A. has virtually stopped rapping on their albums? He does in this song, and while it’s not a great tune, it’s nice to hear the dynamic duo rap again. 311 are pioneers of the rap/rock scene, yet they have been ignoring that for 10 years. While I realize Limp Bizkit killed Rapcore and rap/rock, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done still by a group that was in fact one of the founders of the genre. Say what you want about rap, but these guys make it fun and enjoyable when they actually do it. Plus, S.A. is not a strong lead singer. They chose to give him more of s lead singing presence in their last 2 albums and it was, in my opinion, awful. His voice is high and whiny, which works for some bands, and is essential for 311’s harmony to off set the lack of dynamic in Hexum’s voice in choruses, but not as the lead voice.

The album ends with a Reggae love ballad that bored me, but you may be able to woo a girl with it if you’re into that (ha!).

SUMMARY: This is the best 311 album since their 1999 release of “Soundsystem” by far. It’s fun, it returns them to their heavier roots, and for once I didn’t feel like they were trying to cater to lame college hippies who don’t really know what a hippie is, but pretend they are one. I’m praying they keep up with this trend of heavy guitars, and for God’s Sake boys have S.A. rap more often!!! I think this album will translate VERY well in a live setting, and I hope they make their way to the area so I can test that theory.

RATING: 3.5 out 5 stars. It’s good, better than average, and I almost love it.

I recommend buying it.

If you have never really heard 311, make sure you give them a few tries and listen to the whole song. A lot of people have trouble processing literally 3 types of music in one song, but once you put it together it’s a great experience.

Favorite 311 album: A toss up between the Blue Album (Titled “311″) and” Soundsystem.”

iTunes has a lot of bonus material if you buy the entire album through them.

I know Target and Best Buy have it cheap this week only. ($10)

For those of you who are curious, my wedding is in 22 days!!! I really can not wait, and I can honestly say I am excited because I absolutely am head over heals in love with my fiancée.
We’re heading to Hawaii for our honeymoon on the Monday after our wedding which is a relief. I don’t like the idea of waiting to go away later, it’s just lame in my opinion.
We got a sweet deal on the trip too. One bonus about a crappy economy is travel costs are waaaay cheap. Anyway, I can not wait for the big day!!!!!

Lawmakers down state want to make gun owners register their weapons every 3-5 years in an effort to have greater control over weapons. This is a result, they say, of the Binghamton shootings.

On the surface I thought this might be a good idea, mostly because it’s a way to make money and help the deficit. I also get the intent of such a law… limit idiots from having guns.

After thinking about it though, I HATE this idea. Despite my huge concerns for people with guns, it is our right to carry them. See the 2nd amendment of our constitution. Don’t roll your eyes, it’s a big deal.

If they pass a law that says you have to register your gun every 5 years then what do you, the responsible gun owner, get in return? The state will say they’ll use the new income to help the budget and fund state projects, but how many times have they thrown taxes at us and then pissed it all away on non-sense? Too many.

I like compromise. If you want gun owners to re-register every 5 years, fine… but how about something in return? Allow gun owners less restriction on what they can own. If a guy wants a fully automatic AK47, then let him (or her) have it, and in return make them register it consistently. That way the people get their guns and the government gets their oversight and money. Look, I know for gun owners this is not a perfect situation, but compromise is key with a lot of political issues. Don’t ask for the farm, but ask for some of the cows.

The other thing that blows me away is the people who introduced this bill are State Senator Eric Schneiderman, 31st district of Manhattan, and Assemblywoman Amy Pauling, 88th District of Westchester County. Both are down state politicians who are completely out of touch with what happens upstate regarding this issue. It’s easy to make policy when you are in rich communities that have had these laws for quite some time. To insist upon upstate that this is the proper policy for them is insulting. New York City’s issues are completely different from Rochester’s. We have a high murder rate because of drugs and ILLEGAL gun purchasing, something the current system does nothing to solve. We have more rural areas and much less crowding. We also get over taxed, under paid, and pay fee after fee after fee. Enough is enough.

This sort of policy making is short sighted and is another example of the state taking more of your rights and money away.

I know the intent is to stop a crazy perosn, like the one in Binghamton, from shooting a place up. That’s a noble cause. The reality is you can’t stop crazy people from being crazy. You can take everyone’s gun away and guns will still end up in a crazy person’s hand. Or they’ll come up with a different method all together. Don’t punish the many for the actions of a few. I’d also like to point out that this proposed law will solve nothing in terms of violence. Most gun violence is a result of illegally possessing a gun. Ugh, headache.

The best part of it is when the girls literally beat the crap out of the guys with pussy willows as a way of saying, “hey you’re cute, wanna talk?” Now they aren’t supposed to beat them, but rather tap them. The guys are supposed to spray the girls with water as a sign of them saying they like a girl… lightly of course. HA!

To all my Polish breatherin out there and everyone from my home town of Buffalo, HAPPY DYNGUS DAY!

I have a challenge for all of you, just to see if you can do it, because I am struggling.

When you come across someone at work in the morning while passing them in a hallway, what do you say to them? Most people say, “Hey Jim. How are you?”(for example)

Jim responds, “good, and you?”

To which you respond, “good.”

You then continue on your merry way.

I’ve decided that, despite the fact I do this daily, this greeting is stupid and should be discontinued immediately. There is no way that in the passing interaction you just had with Jim that he is going to say, “ya know, I’m not doing so well today and I’d like to talk about it.”

Even if he did, you probably are in the middle of doing something and don’t really have time to really sit down with him. Chances are you don’t even really care how he’s currently doing. This doesn’t make you a bad person, it’s just realistic.

So I challenge you to stop asking how people are in this or any other type of passer-by setting and simply say something like, “Hey Jim, good to see you.” Or just say, “hey Jim!” and leave it at that.

DO NOT ASK HOW THEY ARE DOING. If they ask you how you’re doing, answer in the standard fashion, unless you want to take it further. If so, instead of answering with the standard, “good,” stop dead in your tracks and tell them exactly how you feel at that moment.

“Well Jim, I have to say this new antacid is giving me wicked gas and causing me to have quite the uncomfortable morning.”

I’m being silly, but if that’s how you feel right this second then tell the person this. See how they react. The goal is not to upset them, but to rather make them realize that if they are going to ask you how you are when you didn’t ask them, then they should be prepared to chat about your current actual state.

It’ll be fun, and something to break the boredom of your job for a day or more. It’s really hard to do, I can’t get out of the routine!

Here’s a question too… if you decide to play this game, what is the punishment for asking someone how they are doing? I say a quarter in a jar for every time you do it without the intention of actually sitting down and talking with someone for a couple minutes. Kind of like a swear jar. If I get a few people to agree to do it on here then I will do it too! Sound off below!!!

I know this is weird and abstract, but as I get older, and I’m only 27 mind you, I seem to get more and more of the damn things. I don’t like them. They are annoying and I want to get rid them. Suggestions???

For those of you who don’t know, we have something called a delay. Basically what it does is delays the audio we broadcast about 30 seconds, so when you are listening to us on the radio you’re hearing us 30 seconds delayed. We have this because we are a live call in show and there is always the possibility that someone may slip and drop a word you can’t say on the radio or TV.

I’ve noticed lately that the ‘S’ word seems to be popping out of caller’s mouths a lot. Now it’s no big deal because we jsut hit the dump button when that happens, but people seem to literally not know it’s not OK to say that.

Why? Maybe because the word is OK to say late night on some cable networks. Maybe because it’s used so commonly now that it’s becoming an acceptable word. I’m not sure… but I will say it’s not OK to say on the air here. I wish it were, I’m all for freedom of speech and really feel like you should be able to say anything, but the FCC disagrees and I value my job so please don’t use that, or any other of the 7 words you can’t say on radio or TV when on the air with us.

Love you guys!
