Some would be shocked to read this from me, but I really need to get out more. I watched the Academy Awards (known of course as the Oscars) last night, and realized I have not seen any of the nominated movies. Not one single stinkin’ one of ‘em. In fact, I’m ashamed to admit the last movie I actually viewed in a theater was Bruno, which was brutal. I guess I was suckered into it thinking it would be as entertaining as Borat (it wasn’t, trust me). So, long story short, I need to expand my horizons and make an effort to take in a flick more often. Lacking knowledge of the movie world, I was quite bored by the entire broadcast last night. It all seems so “hoity-toity” to me, very self-righteous and stuffy. All the Hollywood types slapping each other on the back and making very big deals out of themselves. I know the show is hugely popular and viewed by a billion people worldwide. I’m just out of the loop on the entire film industry. Once again…gotta get out more.

I want to thank everyone who joined me at the Webster Police 1000 Club awards dinner Sat. night at Webster Golf Club. I had the honor of being the Master of Ceremonies again, and I really enjoy the event every year. Chief Pickering and his team do an excellent job for the the town where life is worth living. The WPD proves how important a good police department is to a small community. Thanks to all for putting up with me on Sat. night. God bless all in uniform, including our dedicated members of the military. God bless our troops.

I have returned! Made it safely out of Florida and although I did not find the long lost Elin Woods or secure a bronzed, brown tan, I’m now pleasantly pink, about the same color as Pepto-Bismal (what a picture there, huh?). Had a great vacation as I toured the coasts of the Sunshine State. Began on the westside in Naples Fla. visiting my friends Mae and Tom Dow, along with Liz and Mike Ellis and caught up with a bunch of Rochestarians who were also there on vacay. Turns out Naples is a hotbed for people from here to escape to. There is even an Abbott’s Frozen Custard stand on the main drag of Naples! Funny how the cold can still make it from Roch to Fla. via Abbotts. After a couple of grand days running the beach and soaking up the sun, my good chum Pat McKenna took me through Alligator Alley (where ironically we never once spotted an alligator so I could get new shoes) I ended up in Hollywood. Beach, that is, a cool old school beachtown on the east coast of Fla. There, I chilled and took in the laid back lifestyle of the natives. I did need to pick up the pace a bit and headed for a sweet tour of South Beach and Miami where I enjoyed the hospitality of Luis Aloma, the GM of the Hyatt Hotel on the Miami River. Luis was the award-winning GM here in Roch. at the Hyatt Regency before returning to his native So. Fla. roots. Got to take in the epic Olympic Gold Hockey match between Team USA and Canada poolside at the legendary Clevelander on South Beach. The only way to describe this luxe joint is FREAK SHOW! It was madness, and I loved every second of the Florida tour. Check out what I mean at www.clevelander.com.

Got home to get the great news that our hero RPD Officer Tony DiPonzio is up for another well-deserved award. Help Tony win! Voting for the Americas Most Wanted week #2 Allstar Award has been completed. Officer Anthony Diponzio has been selected as the week #2 finalist!!! As a result he will be one of the 8 finalist for the 2010 Allstar Award!!! The film crew will be in Rochester filming and Tony will be profiled on AMW this Saturday night, 9pm on Fox.Voting starts for the Grand Prize Winner on April 15th at www.amw.com/allstar. God bless Tony and, I’m glad to be back to write God bless our troops.

If you didn’t catch Tiger’s 14 minute statement to the world, check the podcasts here on our site and judge for yourself. Quite a staged, controlled PR event. All I can say is that in the interest of helping humanity, I am off to Florida to assist his wife Elin in her recovery. While Tiger goes back to rehab (must be a “Buddhist thing”) I will attempt to console his (current) bride and help her through the recovery. It’s the least I can do, again as a humanitarian. This may take awhile, so don’t expect any updates here for about 10 days. These things take time, ya know? And, as Elin’s cheating (current) husband said, this is a matter between us, so please allow us some privacy, ok? No paparazzi stalking us (hear that TMZ?), no visitors or friends just “stopping by” Elin’s mansion to see how we’re doing. Please respect us during this difficult time (for her). I will do as much as Elin asks to help her through a rough, emotional time. Think about it. Have you ever been cheated on? I have. It sucks. You feel used and violated. I know what she feels and will help in anyway imaginable. I’m sure I can suggest some things for Elin’s imagination to ease the pain. So, off I go to crappy ol’ boring Fla. to the rescue. Thank for the support. Talk to you as soon as I can get clearance.

On a much more serious note, we lost more troops during the fight in Afghanistan yesterday. These are the people who should be seeking our support, not rich, pampered golfers who wander from their family. Please keep our men and women of the military in your prayers. God bless our troops.

I am not a big fan of the Olympics. It’s tough to get energized over events that I have no passion or interest in. So, I have not been glued to the tube watching all of the spectacle from Vancouver, although it looks like a beautiful area and a great city. But of course I have some thoughts to share regarding the Olympics:

>> Lindsey Vonn is hot! Not only as a gold medal winner in downhill skiing. I know she’s married, but apparently her hubby/coach doesn’t mind if we look, cuz she has her gold medal bod poppin’ out in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. A medal well deserved.

>> What is up with those costumes on the men’s figure skaters? Talk about flamin’? Fur, feathers, sequins? Looks like a wild night out at Mothers or Nasty D’s downtown.

>> and while we’re talking about flamin’, did you witness the Olympic cauldron debacle during the opening ceremonies? Long story short, one of the 4 prongs on the gigantic cauldron malfunctioned, leaving Wayne Gretzky hopelessly standing with the torch in his hand, awaiting his next instructions. Nobody makes The Great One wait! Needless to say, it was an embarrassment to the organizers who put billions into pulling off the perfect opening for the Games. Oh well, the Games went on, begging the question: do we really need to blow so much money on a spectacle that has nothing to do with the actual competition? Sorry, didn’t mean to rain on the parade. And speaking of rain, where’s all the cold and snow up there in British Columbia? Temps have been in the 50’s for a significant portion of the Games, cancelling events and creating less than ideal conditions. I don’t remember such problems when the Olympics were held in Lake Placid here in our wonderful state.

>> I do give credit to all the athletes who have devoted so much time and effort into training for what can turn into a short snapshot, a mere moment that can change their entire life. And it can all go wrong instantly, as witnessed by the horrible death of the luge contestant from Georgia. Much sacrifice goes into those seconds of do-or-die. And the effort should be appreciated. Much like how we should appreciate what our troops are doing for us, especially at this very second while the battle in Afghanistan continues. Our heroes do not seek medals, fame or recognition. They carry on the fight so we can enjoy the freedom of playing and watching games. God bless our troops.

What a horrific tragedy in Greece Sat. night with the shooting of poor 7-year-old Hunter Resch. By his own father. What gives? I have plenty of friends who have endured brutal breakups and divorces, but to take it out on your own child? There is no explanation for such insanity. A little innocent kid, watching TV in what is supposed to be a safe haven from the wrongs of the world, and his dad shoots him. Evil. Madness. Nasty. Brutal. Alarming. Disgusting. Just some of the words to describe such an unspeakable thing. Hunter was known as “The Mayor” of Paddy Hill school, a sweet popular scout. So I dedicate today’s blog to my fellow politician of the hallways. You know the pearly white gates of Heaven were immediately opened for him. I did not know his father or can explain why in his distraught mind he would pull the trigger on his own flesh and blood to spite his ex. You gotta guess he has an EZ Pass to hell for such a crime on humanity. God bless the memory of innocent little Hunter and God bless our troops, who continue the fight against such evil.

Was lucky enough to be invited to the Syracuse basketball game last night at the Dome against Connecticut. SU won 72-67 in front of 24,600 of us up on the chilled hill. I am a long suffering fan of Notre Dame and usually cheer against the Orange. Nothing against SU, it’s just that they play in the Big East with my Irish so I have to follow my heart. However, I find myself cheering this season for Syracuse because I really like this team. They play as a t-e-a-m and are very unselfish, especially compared to some former SU teams. Nobody tries to be the hero, they all just play well together. Even when they struggled last night with their guard Andy Rautens on the bench in foul trouble, they still played well enough to win against an arch-rival. I have a solid feeling that the ‘Cuse is heading for the Final Four in the NCAA tourney in March and April. There appears to be something special brewing down the Thruway. My thanks to Steve Martin from Canandaigua National Bank who invited me to join him along with John Parkhurst from the RBTL and Kevin Flynn from Martino Flynn Advertising. It was a great group to share a game with. Pre-game we went to a wonderful restaurant in Syracuse called Phoebe’s, where the food and company was stellar. Our waitress Carrie informed us that Phoebe’s was a brothel many years ago and Phoebe was the lead madam for the joint in it’s heyday. All this conversation was enlightening for my nephew Dylan, a freshman at SU who joined us for a very entertaining night in the Salt City. I highly recommend Phoebe’s for any of our Buzz listeners in the ‘Cuse. And by the way, for those of you who have been asking, my man Dylan is doing very well in school at SU. I’m really proud of how he’s doing after a very rough stretch to start the year personally. God bless Dylan and God bless our troops.

>> Greece Police Officers, who deserve a great Chief who will restore the pride in the badge in the GPD. Many good people work there and they are in good hands with not only Chief Baxter but also… .

>> Deputy Chief Brian Urmacher, who was Chief Baxter’s first appointment on the job. Dep. Chief Urmacher held the GPD together during their toughest days and has won the respect of all in the community. Another good man who deserves the job.

Lots of winter action to enjoy this weekend, all leading up to the Big Game Sunday. I can’t legally write the actual trademarked name of this football extravaganza that is being played in Miami because the NFL will sue my poor ass, and since the economy and stock market are in the toilet, don’t want to lose any more $. So, I’ll take the team from Indy (can I legally write Colts?) and predict a big party on the North Coast of America. And since the Psychic Festival is in town at the Holiday Inn on Jeff. Rd. this wknd., I also can see a day off in my future Monday. I am feeling a strong power washing over me that says I will stay up late Sun. night watching Peyton Manning directing his team (rhymes with bolts) to his second Big Game win, and I will need extra beauty sleep Mon. morning so I’m feeling……let’s see…a day off for yours truly Mon. So, if you want to bet anything, bet the house you won’t hear my dulcid tones on the Buzz Mon. morning.

Here’s some great ideas for the Big wknd.:

>> Professional ISOC Sno-cross races at Finger Lakes Gaming and Race Track on Rt. 96 Fri. – Sun. Rev those sleds under the lights.

>> Unprofessional pond hockey in Fairport at the Labatt Blue Canal Cup Tournament Fri. – Sun. Keep an eye for Pat The Producer from the Breakfast Buzz, along with my college hockey buds from Geneseo Rick Altier, Jeff Stitt and Keith Hyde as they lace ‘em up on the canal. Those boys need to take a good shot to the head to knock some sense into them.

>> If you want to look deeply into the future, check out the psychics in Henrietta at the Holiday Inn. Ask any of the 10 pros if I will be at work on Mon.

>> Our bud Mitch from the C&S Saloon in Brockport is hosting a fundraiser Sat. from 7p to midnight to raise cash for the 10-year-old son of Steve Nobles, who owns the coffee shop on Main St. in downtown B’port. Stop by and help the cause if you’re on the westside.

>> And on Sat. I’ll be the MC/PA announcer for the Canandaigua alumni basketball game at the high school at 6pm. Nothing like watching a bunch of over-weight old guys running around in tight shorts for entertainment, still livin’ the dream. After I toss my cookies from that carnage, I’ll shoot into the city to watch the Razorsharks win their 100th franchise victory at 7:35 at the Blue Cross Arena. The Harlem Globetrotters kick off the day of hoops at the BCA at 2pm. Intersting geek fact: Coach Rod Baker has coached both the Trotters and Sharks, and should grab his 100th career win as the Roch. coach Sat. night. A great achievement for a very good guy and a great coach! God bless Rod for his many years of basketball knowledge and God bless our troops.

Wouldn’t it be nice if your boss said that to you today at work? “Hey, how about a bonus? I know you’ve done a terrible job and lost us millions of dollars, but I think you deserve to be rewarded for it. What do ya say? Take a big chunk of cash even though you did nothing to warrent this payday. Hey, who cares? It’s not our money anyways. It’s those suckers known as “taxpayers”! Ha! Joke’s on them! Suckers!!!!” I might be paraphrasing, but that is what could be goin’ down at AIG today. You remember AIG, right? They are the geniuses who started the whole financial mess that we’ve been stuck with over the last 18 months. They fumbled and bumbled their way through billions of dollars in bad investments, only to be bailed out in the end by the federal government. Now, the word is out that AIG is handing out $100,000,000 in bonuses. If you couldn’t figure that out with all the 000’s, that’s a cool $100 MILLION. For doing a terrible job. Wouldn’t it be great to have a job like that? No matter how bad you do, or how much risk you take or money you lose, you get a bonus a year later. Sweet! Sign me up! But do it today so I can get a chunk of the bonus loot too, ok?

Watched the pictures on the tube from yesterday’s heart-wrenching funeral for USMC Lance Corporal Zach Smith from Hornell. By all accounts this 19-year-old was special. Everybody in Hornell loved him, from his classmates at HHS to his old high school football coach, to little old ladies on the street who he helped at Wegmans. It’s a shame to lose somebody who was so young and vibrant and overall a great person. God bless Zach’s memory and all who volunteer like him to serve our country. God bless our troops.

Congrats to the DiPonzio family for surviving a whirlwind year. One year ago Sunday, Officer Anthony DiPonzio was shot on duty. Needless to say, that shooting rocked this town and also galvinized the community. One year later, Tony’s miraculous recovery continues and his parents Joann and Tony have much to be thankful for. Let’s face it, their world was turned upside-down in an instant on Jan. 31, 2009. But they are amazing people and have weathered quite a year. And Tony went from being a boy cop to a man. Much more of a man than me. Can’t wait to see Tony get back on the job at the RPD this year! Go get ‘em Tony!

Thanks to all in Elba, my favorite farm town over in Genesee Co. You’ve heard me on the Buzz talk about these people before, but I must reiterate how nice they are. Kimberly and her hubby Mt. Morris joined me and a crew Sat. night for a trip into Genesee Co. We had a delicious dinner at Alex’s Place in Batavia as we were treated like royalty by Vivian and Paulette. Got to meet some nice peeps there, like Tom and Jackie who are big Buzz followers. From there, we cruised over to O’Lacys irish pub in downtown Batavia. My kind of place. Thanks to Kent, Kathy and Sara who run a very cool irish gin joint, tucked away behind the mall in Batavia. Then it was onto the real deal: The Stumblin Inn in Elba. Our band Savage Cabbage was rockin Main. St. in the tiny farming community where my loyal muckers live and work. Today I am proudly wearing my Stumblin Inn hoodie, given to me by the owners Jim and Mayor Stork. A record crowd enjoyed a very festive night out in the country, and I thank each and everyone who came out on a night where the temp bottomed out at zero under a full moon. Can’t name all the folks I met, but thanks to Droid, Mike, Johnny Rocker, Frank Rizzo, Carl and all the Starowitz family, Rae, Nick and Sam, Lt. Mudman and Carrie, Lisa, Terri and Darlene from Gen. Co. ARC, Mike the Contractor, Mark The Redneck, Alicia, Jeff who drove over from Mendon to join the fun, Sherry and the ladies from Phat Katz next door…I could go on and on with names of great people who I met and partied with in Genesee Co. Thanks to all and I will return for more laughs and good cheer. God bless all those who work so hard out there in the farmlands everyday, and God bless our troops.

If you have any pull, power or juice, can you please send me some new kharma? The start to this new year/decade has been absolutely brutal for yours truly. 4 wakes and a couple of funerals since Jan. 1 is enough for me. I pray to God that does my quota for this year. I’ve wintessed far too much suffering and pain recently. I hope for the best from here forward.

I was honored to be part of the Policeman’s Ball Sat. night at the Riverside Convention Center. A sell-out crowd of over 750 people enjoyed a festive night put together by the Badge of Honor Association, a fine group of RPD officers who support families of fallen officers and comrades in law enforcement. My congratulations to RPD Officers Justin Collins and Mike Murphy who did a wonderful job of organizing and keeping everything running smoothly. The night also helped to raise funds and awareness for the Autism Council of Rochester and the fine work they do with research and support. It was a superb event for a couple of great causes. One of the highlights of the evening was the “Dancing with the law” competition, which pitted 5 officers against each other in a dance-off patterned after “Dancing with the stars”. After weeks of grueling practice and training at the Arthur Murray School of Dance, I have to admit all of the cops did a great job, certainly better than anything I could ever pull off. My apologies to anyone who may have been offended by my performance as a judge of the contest. If you know me at all, you’re certainly aware of my habit of being quite sarcastic on the mic at events and in public. Sat. was certainly no exception as I attempted to bring some levity to the evening. And I must admit it was a great way for me to de-compress after a tough week for my family. Thanks to Justin, Mike and all who attended such a noble event and to all who participated in the Dancing, especialy Steve Scott who did a magnificent job as the smooth Master of Ceremonies and kept things flowing well. IF I’m invited back after my performance this year, I’ll gladly be the first to sign up! Learn more @ www.BadgeOfHonorAssociation.org. God bless all who raised the dough for the Autism Council and those who protect us everyday. God bless our troops!

I lost a “brother” Sunday morning. Steven Privitera is well known to many people who love great food. He was the renowned Chef at Bernard’s Grove on Long Pond Rd. in Greece. Well regarded as one of the best chefs in western New York, Steven was more than a “foodie” to me. He was a close bro, a guy who came into my life when he met my “sister” (by love, not by blood) Tracy Pinto. They instantly became close friends, which led to their marriage August 25, 2007, a day that I was lucky to be part of. Steven was more than a husband to Tracy. He was her best friend and a loving father to Tracy’s son Dylan, who has grown up to become quite a man at 18-years-old. As much as Steven loved food and cooking for his many fans and friends, he adored Tracy and Dylan much more. He provided love, comfort, counsel and guidance for my sister and her great son, who I was honored to help sponsor and confirm into the Catholic Church a couple of years ago at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Steven was much more than an excellent chef. He was a devoted family man, loved and cherished by many. To say his loss is heart-wrenching is an understatement. I was lucky enough to be with him in his last few hours, and I’ll always remember how happy he was then, at peace with the world. It’s trite to say “he’s in a better place”…that will have to be something to think about later. In my mind, at 43-years-old, his place was here, with Tracy and Dylan, on the beach or in the kitchen. To say he’ll be sorely missed, again, an extreme understatement. Steven will be sorely loved forever.

To show respect for Steven, Tracy and Dylan, calling hours will be held Wednesday 3-7pm at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home 1075 Long Pond Rd. I will attend Steven’s Memorial Mass Thursday morning at 11am at Holy Cross Church on Lake Ave. in Charlotte. I ask you to please keep Tracy, Dylan and the Privitera and Schey families in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. God bless them and Steven’s memory. And God bless our troops.

The pictures coming from Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake are brutal. What has happened to such a poor country is beyond imagination. It’s obvious this human tragedy will stretch the ability of the tiny, poor country to recover, yet alone survive. I certainly can feel the pain that many are feeling now. A few years back I dated a beautiful Haitian woman by the name of Renee who was born here in Henrietta. Her mother was born on the tiny island of Haiti, located south of Florida and Cuba and sharing an island with the Domincan Republic. Renee was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, a caring nurse and wonderful mother who is not only beautiful on the outside but in her heart as well. After meeting her mom on a visit, it was obvious to me that she received her sweet personality from her mother. (By the way, Renee is safe today raising a family in Texas.) If you are searching for anyone who may have been visiting Haiti or living there through this crisis, you can call 888.407.4747 for info. To assist the Red Cross financially in this massive recovery effort, call 241.4417 locally or 800.RED.CROSS. Or the Salvation Army is also helping @ 1.800.SAL.ARMY. This will not be a quick turnaround. This recovery will takes years, maybe decades. You can know that the US military will be leading the way for these poor, impoverished victims. Because when tragedy strikes, anywhere in the world, the first to help is our military. God bless those in need and God bless our troops.

Watched the BCS College Football “Championship” game Thursday night. Once Texas lost their star QB on the first series, you knew it was Alabama’s game to lose. So that bastard Coach Nick Saban won his 2nd title 37-21. I don’t think it’s a real “championship” until college football comes up with a playoff system. If they can be so successful with the NCAA basketball tournament every spring, why not with football. Boise St. was undefeated, beat some Top 10 teams and still didn’t get a shot at the title. Not right. But now, the focus turns to the NFL for the wild card playoff weekend. 4 great games over 2 days. Sweet. I’ll be checking it all out in between basketball action. Off to Fairport tonight for the Red Raiders game as they host my Canandaigua Braves. I’m torn with this one. CA is my team, but I’ve known FHS Coach Scott Fitch since his great playing days at Geneseo, and he coaches my bud Max Brown, who at 17-years-old is 6′8″ (with his fro he looks like a 7 footer). So, I guess I can’t lose. Saturday I’m off to Buffalo to watch my niece Lia Zahn play ball at Daeman College. This past Tuesday, her sister Ashley shattered the CA girls scoring record. Now Ash was chosen as News 10NBC #1 Star and D&C Athlete of the Week. Love those Zahn girls! Sunday it’s football all day as I attempt to thaw from the cold and snow. Our military wishes they could be here to experience this winter wonderland. It’s hot and dangerous where they reside. God bless our troops.

Finally, the folks over on N. Clinton Ave. can chill (literally) after the RPD and RFD arrested 40-year-old Rondell Flowers and charged him with 2nd degree arson in connection with that big fire at Ridge-Clinton Plaza in November. The entire neighborhood and all the businesses in the plaza were affected by the fire originally started at the Dollar General store. When you look at his mug shot, is it me or do you agree that alleged criminals look alot older in their police supplied photos than their actual age? I guess a life devoted to the stress of ruining others lives will do that to ya….

Speaking of dumb criminals, have you heard the woman who called Kimberly & Beck to confess her crime in Greece? If not, check it out on our homepage. I bet her lawyer and the DA’s Office appreciated the call….

And speaking of dumb, if the rules state “no guns allowed”, would you still bring a gun to work? I guess NBA player Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards thinks otherwise. Wise would not be a word associated with Gilbert, who brought his prized weapons to work in the locker room at the arena. His last name really works, huh? He has now been suspended indefinitetly by the NBA, and he loses his $147,000 paycheck for every game he misses. Nice pay for playing a game. And do you know what the Wizards team name was before they changed it to get away from a thug image? The Bullets. Really!

And how about the banker in LeRoy who allegedly borrowed $45,000 from her drawer at the Bank of Castile? 43-year-old Tracy Smith of Bergin was formerly the head teller at the bank. You think that if she rose up through the ranks to that position that she would think the bank would actually pay attention when their money was missing. Unless the bank is run by good ol’ Mr. Drysdale from the classic Beverly Hillbillies TV show. Maybe Tracy needed Jethro as an accomplice.

Enough with people lacking in judgement. They’ve got nothing on our soldiers who are out there fighting the good fight, all on a volunteer basis for little reward. God bless our troops.

Jason Johnston was buried today in Albion following an emotional service at St. Josephs Church in Albion. He was just 24, taken far too early in life while fighting for us in Afghanistan on the day after Christmas. What really touched me about his service is what small town spirit exists out in Albion. A heroes death like this pulls a tight knit community in a small town even closer together. You could tell by the 35 mile escort from the Roch. airport to Albion when Jason’s body was returned the other day. Led by the Albion Fire Dept. and the Patriot Guard, flags and people were everywhere along the solemn tour. Cops/firefighters/farmers/ordinary people showed their respect for the fallen soldier from the 82nd Airborne Unit. While a sad sight, it also shows what spirit small towns have about their own. Truly inspiring. I’m sure his family feels the love during the worst time of their life. And no doubt as the days progress, many in the small Albion community will be there for the Johnstons who lost their only child. God bless his memory and all of our troops.

Launch Bone Marrow Drive to help give the Gift of Life

WHAT:

Ontario County residents can take the first step to save a life by joining the Be The Match Registry between 11:00am and 3:00pm on Tuesday, January 5th at the Farmington NYS Police Barracks using a simple mouth swab.

Donors with diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds are especially critical, as patients in need of a transplant are most likely to match someone of their own race and ethnicity.

WHEN: WHERE:

Tuesday, January 5 NYS Police Barracks

11:00 to 3:00 pm 1569 Rochester Road

                                                                                            Farmington, NY 14425

WHY: For thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma, a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor is their best or only hope for a cure. These patients, like Andrew, depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match – and a second chance at life.

While many patients do find the life-saving match they need each year, more donors are needed to help increase the likelihood that all patients will find a life-saving match. Financial contributions and volunteers are also needed to help save lives.

About the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) and Be The MatchSM

The NMDP operates the Be The Match Registry and partners with a global network of leading hospitals, blood centers, cord blood banks, laboratories and recruiters. As a leader in the field of marrow and cord blood transplantation, the NMDP facilitates transplants worldwide, conducts research to improve survival and quality of life, and provides education to health care professionals and patients. Since it began operations in 1987, the NMDP has provided more than 35,000 transplants to help give patients a second chance at life. For more information, visit www.BeTheMatch.org or call 1 (800) MARROW-2.

God bless Samantha and her family. And God bless all in uniform, including our troops

As the decade winds down, looking back, it’s been another interesting year. All of my favorite sports teams came up short except for the Canandaigua Braves lacrosse team, which won their first state championship for Coach Ed Mulheron in a season that was captured @ www.seasoninthebalance.com. What a year for New Balance to adopt the Braves and make them nationally famous. My other teams (Bills, Notre Dame, Red Wings) look to the new decade for a fresh start. Locally, there has been some progress in our city, with new projects being built (ESL HQ, 19th Ward hotels and condos, Henry B’s & Sagamore Grill in the East End) but much disappointment as well (the demise of Renn. Square on Main St., 3 RPD city officers shot by thugs). Career-wise, it’s been a great 2009 for me as your favorite station that plays all kinds of rock has been on a roll with our ratings (THANK YOU!) and my teammates here are great people to share a job and life with. In fact, two of them got married (Kimberly to Mt. Morris, Pat The Producer to Jessie) and I got to share in their joyous days. Personally, I really can’t ask for more. I’ve got tons of great friends who put up with my A-D-D and less-than-mature behavior. I’ve got great families that look out for me in my homeland of Canandaigua. And I legitimately have nothing to complain about. I hope you’re in the same boat as we head for 2010. Who knows what awaits us. The terror level has been ratched up over the last few days thanks to the underwear bomber on the Detroit flight. I’m sure you and I will notice changes in the new year at the airport, as we most certainly will in our world. We can only hope for the best. And as I do, I wish you the best for a safe and happy decade to come.

Just remember that our loyal soldiers are out there looking our for us, now and at all times of the year. The family of Jason Johnston knows this all too well. The Johnstons of Albion lost their only child 24-year-old Jason on Dec. 26 when his unit was attacked in Afghanistan. Flags now fly at half staff statewide in his honor. Imagine the pain this family now feels. I hope in their sorrow they also feel the pride for what their son did for us. God bless Jason and his family in Orleans Co. and God bless all of our troops in the new decade as they continue their mission!

Went to a great Christmas party on Saturday at the home of Colleen and Gary Young in Fairport. All were in the proper frame of mind for the holidays. While we shared laughs and drinks, I was told this holiday treat. Might as well share with you just in case you aren’t quite in the holiday spirit yet. God bless our troops. A Christmas Story for people having a bad day:

When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not
produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed
Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out. Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the
door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, ‘Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this
a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?’

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

While enjoying holiday cheer and hectic Christmas shopping this weekend, I’d like for you to spend a moment and reflect on how much your family means to you during this festive season. This is an actual news story forwarded to me from my hockey lovin’ bud Carlo Rossi. Read below and enjoy.

Erie County sheriff’s deputies arrested a young Holland man Thursday evening
after he allegedly whacked his father over the head with a hockey stick
during an argument.

Erik L. Backlarz, 22, is held in the Erie County Holding Center pending
arraignment in Colden Town Court on charges of second-degree assault and
fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the Sheriff’s Office reports.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Center Street in Colden at about
5 p.m. for a domestic incident and found the older man injured. He was taken
to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville, and received stitches. The son
fled at first, then returned and turned himself in, deputies said.

If that doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, nothing will. Except maybe a solid puck to the head. Please don’t forget our military this weekend who face more deadly weapons than hockey sticks in suburban Buffalo. God bless our troops.

While I sit here thankful that the court system has done the right thing and sent Frank Garcia off to rot in prison for the dastardly evil acts he commited on Feb. 14, 2009, I have to think about people who actually do great things to help others during the holidays. If you don’t see through evil, you miss all that is good in the world. For instance, a great group of folks has organized a fundraiser this Friday at the Water St. Music Hall at 204 N. Water St. downtown, just off the Inner Loop. It’s called Strokability 09. Strange title, eh? It’s named because funds that will be raised will go to the Stroke Center at Strong Memorial Hospital, along with the American Heart Assoc. Some fine musicians will perform Friday, including one of my faves Jumbo Shrimp, along with Highway Jones, DJ J-Red, Strange Montgomery, Dee Dee Dubois and more. The gorgeous Leah George, ace reporter for YNN News and Rachel Barnhart from TV 13 News will “act” as celebrity bartenders (no acting needing with these fine jounalists). Help the cause and get in the proper frame of mind for the holidays by helping others. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com for $15 in advance, or call 585.546.3887. Pay an extra $5 if you wait til Friday at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm and the tunes start crankin’ on stage at 7 til 1am. Dance your ass off and avoid a stroke. I wish a gigantic stroke to Frank Garcia in prison, the sooner the better!

While I salute the 2 RPD cops who have been released from Strong as of today, Dan Brochu and Luca Martini and thank them for their service and wish a very happy holiday season during their recovery, can’t help but feel sadness today for the family of Staff Sgt. Dennis Hansen who lived in Scottsville. Sgt. Hansen lost his life while fighting for us in Afghanistan. Now his wife and 2 kids will go through the holidays without a husband and dad. Just another sad local reminder of how courageous our troops are, and what sacrifices these families make. Not only during the holidays, but year round. But it is especially brutal at this time of the year. So, please say a prayer for Staff Sgt. Hansen, his family, Officers Brochu and Martini and all men and women who wear the uniform. God bless our troops.

I had a grand weekend, surrounded by wonderful people who challenged me to be a “name dropper”. If you’re not familiar with this concept, a “name dropper” is someone who will try to impress others with the people they know and the names they can share. I was challenged to be part of this by a few peeps this wknd. So, where do I begin?

Friday: I celebrated JOHN PARKHURST’S (from the RBTL) birthday downtown at HENRY B’s Sagamore Grill with GERRY BROWNELL from the CPD , TRACY PEARL from MATRIX MARKETING , NANCY GERACI JOY SHIEBLE, SCOTT NEWBURG, ERIC SCHMIDT and THE ONE AND ONLY MIKE DAVIS of ENTERCOM, TERRY OWEN from LOGICAL SOLUTIONS.NET with JIM and TOM SALVISKI, KEITH FRIEL from THE RAZORSHARKS with CHELSEA from the PITTSFORD YMCA, GARY YOUNG of the HYATT HOTEL, DAVE SWAIN and PATRICK HICKEY from the RPD, SUSAN NATOLI of MTV2 and the fine service provided by DAWN, BULLET, BRIAN and STEVEN of HENRY B’s. From the East End, we travelled east to Fairport to enjoy the fun, starting at the FAIRPORT VILLAGE INN thanks to KEN and BRAD, down the street to MULCONRYS with SHAMUS, MIKE and JOE in charge. Finished with a stay at T-FOOTS, thanks to LARRY, GERRY, JOHN and CHARLIE.

Saturday: I made a trip south to Naples to salute the REED family as we celebrated the life of SHIRLEY REED, a dear family friend who we lost recently. Shirley was a sweet southern lady who helped to raise me as a child in her home in Canandaigua. The church was filled with many who miss her dearly, like all the Ontario Co. Judges (FRED HENRY, JIM HARVEY, BILL KOCHER and CRAIG DORAN who have followed in the footsteps of my UNCLE ROBERT P. KENNEDY and Shirley’s hubby JUDGE GEORGE REED). The service was administered by PAT and JIM JOHNSON from the JOHNSON-KENNEDY funeral home who put up with the antics of my borther JOE ROCKHEAD who was in attend with me and many well wishers to wish Shirley a proper sendoff. After I stopped by LOCK STOCK n BARREL on Rt. 64 next to BRISTOL MOUNTAIN. There I enjoyed a toast to Shirley’s memory with DAVID O. the owner, along with BECKY, DAVE MILLER the accountant, MAGGIO, CHRIS SCOTT, STEVE HOWIE, SEEMA ALI RIZZO and her hubby JOE RIZZO from GALLO &IACOVANGELO law firm. If you ever head down to Bristol to enjoy the skiing provided by DAN FULLER there, stop in and see DAVID O. and BECKY. On Saturday night I toured towards Lima to celebrate the holidays with all the hard working folks from the LIVINGSTON CO. SHERIFFS OFFICE. I could write all day about the great names I hung with there, but just want to say thanks to DISTRICT ATTORNEY TOM MORAN his gorgeous wife KIM, LIVINGSTON CO. JUDGE COHEN, CRICKET, MYRA and RAY SLATTERY, RON HUFF, JERRY KANE and BECKI and all my friends out there in the country. It was a great night.

On Sunday I was honored to be invited to a holiday soiree at the home of COLLEN and DOUG EMBLIDGE from 13 NEWS who entertained with assistance from their daughter ERIN and her boy JOSH MONSTER. So many great people there, including MAE SQUIER-DOW flanked by her husband TOM DOW, LIZ VEGA-CALKINS and her man JEFF CALKINS (something about beautiful women with hyphenated names) another bodacious MAZY with MIKE DIGIROGIO from TV 13 alongside GINNY RYAN and her hubster JEFF CURRAN. From there I dined at the West Lake Rd. estate of DEBBIE and KEN BUCK who shared thier home and food with me and our boy MITCHELL BUCK. If ther is anybody who could top all my name dropping from this past weekend, I would put my money on THE MITCHMAN. He and I agree that we owe proper thanks to those whose names we do not know but we respect even more: GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS.

Excuse me while I enjoy this weekend happy with the hiring of the new Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly. As a life long fan of the Irish since my oldest bro Tom went to school there (7 years as undergrad and ND law school). I have had a love affiar with the great university. It was the only place our family would ever go to on our vacations when I was a kid. I was raised on the tradition of the greatness of Notre Dame as a school and a football program. It’s in my irish blood. Coach Kelly arrives from Cincinnatti with a great resume. After watching his entrie press conference today, I am fired up. He mentioned “passion” many time. I love passionate people. Passion is a key ingredient for success. Coach Kelly has it for ND like I do. Bring it on and I’ll run through a wall for ND and our new coach. I will be singing the Fight Song all this wknd. God bless Notre Dame and our troops this weekend.

Last night was the Entercom Radio Holiday Bash here at the conglomerate. It’s an annual gathering of all of the important people who pay my salary…namely our advertisers who buy time on our 5 radio stations to sell their goods and services. Thank God for them all because I would be even more aimless in life without our fine clients paying my bills. I can say honestly that the party was superb! I reallly can because I had nothing to do with the whole shindig. I mean, I ate well, drank well and b.s.ed my way through the entire event. Most would say that is a normal day for yours truly, I can not disagree. I even saw a drunk clown (Roscoe, you know who you are)! It was a pleasure to be part of the extravaganza. I’m sure you can see from the pictures here on our site that it was a major success, again with no thanks to me. The thanks and kudos go to Mike Davis (extreme party poobah) Jon Spinder, our beautiful Shannon, Megan and Christy who were the pillars of party supremacy, our boss Sue Munn who picked up the tab, Jonny O. who engineered the festivities and the one and only Eric Schmidt who was rightfully in charge of the VIP area, where all good things happen! Congrats to all who made it a large scale success. And if you want to be on the exclusive invite list next year, call 585.423.2900 and book some advertising with one of our accomplished sales execs. Our sales ladies are hot and intelligent at the same time! What a concept, huh? Believe me, the relatively small fee you pay up front will be well worth it when the holidays roll around next year and we do it all over again. Help to pay the freight and the bash will be great. God bless our advertisers and, most importantly at the holidays God bless our troops.

It really is a great party every year. Just listen on air after 6pm to hear all the chaos going on live as our bosses are crazy enough to have us slurring live on air during the whole thing. And check back here tomorrow for a full recap of the madness. For now, hold on to your skirt (or toupee) for a couple of days as “the seasons are a changin’” (my dad used to say that corny phrase all the time). And please remember those who are in harm’s way during the holidays.

Don’t know about you, but I’ve heard enough about the trials and tribulations of Tiger Woods. It was interesting at the beginning, mainly due to the fact that the truth that was emerging was so contrary to his finely tuned image. Now, it’s just getting to be overkill. I guess we all can summize that Tiger is a horndog and can’t keep his club in the bag. So, I don’t need to hear anything else about who/what he was doing. Let his wife take care of it all. She seems to have got a good running start on him when she discovered the naked truth first. I’m sure she’ll be fine in the long run, but let the two of them get it hammered out now and hope for the best for his kids.

So to avoid the Tiger overkill and piling on (really, how many tramps do we need to hear about?) this weekend I avoided the TV. Gathered a large festive group and hit the Sagamore Grill on East Ave. @ Scio Friday night to enjoy a great group Soul Expressions who were belting out some great classic party tunes. Even most of the News 10NBC team joined us for the action. Let’s just say we must have had a grand time dancing and partying because the bar ran out of Coors Light. That is always a clear sign that our group was in prime form. When the mountains run dry, we fly. Walked down the street to check the supplies at Salingers and the Sports Page on Monroe. Holiday cheer was abounding.

Saturday it was off to Buffalo where my niece (by love, not blood) Lia Zahn plays college hoops for Daemen College. I discovered a great restaurant for you or any of our Buffalo readers to enjoy. The North End restaurant is a small, intimate place on Hertel Ave between Sterling and Norwalk in the city of Buffalo, not far from Main St. and the UB campus. The food (pork and steak) was superb, the owner Lawrence very accomodating and the bartender Victoria friendly and skilled. It’s a great spot to peruse if you are in Buffalo and need a fine meal. After we made it downtown to watch the madness on Chippewa, the Buff equivalent to Roch’s East End. Stumbled upon a Buff tradition entitled the Santa Pub Crawl. Basically, it involved numerous drunken Santas barhopping through the streets. Apparently some people aren’t fans of drunk guys in red suits hitting on women because a major brawl had just been quelled by the Buffalo Police and there was at least 5 guys in hand cuffs when I arrived on the scene. There really isn’t anything that says HAPPY HOLIDAYS more than a Santa in handcuffs. Needless to say, I didn’t last long in that environment and was thankful for once to have my A-D-D rescue me. I really don’t have patience for fools during the Christmas season. One thing that I know is not foolish: on this Pearl Harbor Day, please don’t forget about 2,200 soliders, sailors and Marines who lost their lives 68 years ago today thanks to the Japanese surprise attack on Dec. 7, 1941. God bless their memory and God bless all of our troops.

If you ever need a way to get into the holiday spirit, take a ride into my hometown of Canandaigua and check out all the beautifully decorated homes and stores along Main St. Everybody gets in the mood with gorgeous decorations and lights aplenty. There are so many beautiful old homes in Canandaigua. In fact, take a tour of some of them this Saturday from noon til 5p along Howell St., which runs right off of Main St. and leads into Sonnenberg Gardens. Tickets for this fundraiser are available at Canandaigua National Bank locations, Sweet Expressions and Goodie II in downtown CA and at Sonnenberg. My second mother Judy Smith (whose home I grew up in on Washington St.) will be leading this tour of some of Canandaigua’s most celebrated homes. God bless Judy for putting up with me and all my CA buds for all of these years. And more importantly, God bless our troops.

When will people start respecting authority? Human life? 2 more cops shot, 2 more families put through the ringer, the Rochester Police Dept. on edge again. So soon after what Anthony DiPonzio and his family went through already this year. Now Off. Dan Brochu and Off. Luca Martini and their families are at Strong and the community says “why?” Why? Because there’s too many guns, too many scumbags and too many people who don’t care who you are, whether in uniform or just going about your business. Let the cops do their jobs and start showing the thugs we won’t take their disrespect anymore. I don’t mean disrespect just to the police. To all of us. This crap sucks and somehow the dirt amongst us have to get the message. Let the cops do their job. There is nothing worse than being at the hospital in the middle of the night standing vigil for people who are sworn to protect and serve us. God bless the cops!

Hope you had a better Thanksgiving weekend than Tiger Woods. I know Tiger is not answering questions about his car accident, but if he was and I was there for the news conference, my first query would be “Mr. Woods, sir, why were you leaving your house at 2:30am? Were you getting diapers for your 9-month-old? Or going for a scenic Fla. drive after eating a big turkey dinner?” Then I would follow up with, “are you not a billionaire? Because sir if I was the first pro athlete to ever make a billion dollars from my winnings, endorsements and personal appearances, I would personally want to answer all questions regarding how bad my appearance seems to appear to your adoring public now sir. And if you have been lucky enough in life, through all your hard work and natural talent, for you to acquire such wealth, wouldn’t you have someone on staff to drive you? And wouldn’t you have someone on retainer to advise you to not hide and cover up anything that the police might want to ask you? And why wouldn’t you talk to the cops if you have nothing to hide?” I’m sure I would be asked to leave that media event if I asked such questions, but inquring minds want to know. And of course I’m not the only one with many questions about this bizarre event. Hitting a fire hydrant is bad enough, but to then nail a tree too, well that’s quite a feat. Better get a new driver Tiger. And maybe new PR advisors while you’re at it sir.

Speaking of the police (who Tiger ironically doesn’t want to speak to) the country mourns the loss of 4 police officers lost in a senseless shooting in Lakewood, Washington, outside of Seattle. 4 cops working their laptops at a coffee shop who get assasinated on a Sunday morning of a holiday weekend, leaving 4 families in shock and all cops on heightened alert. I’ve always said cops have a thankless, brutal job. They never know when they go to work if they’ll be coming home after their shift. Thanks to each and every one of them who are willing to do it. God bless the memories of the 4 fallen heroes: Greg Richards, Tina Griswold, Mark Renniger and Ronald Owens. And God bless all of our troops in law enforcement and the military.

I hope you have a great holiday weekend. No fights with the family, ok? I have tried to blackout way too many memories from when I was growing up and the brawls that would breakout during our family holiday “celebrations”. Hey, that’s what happens when you have an older sister and three older brothers who each have their own distinctive personality. Nothing like a loud shouting match to make your holiday even more festive!

I will begin my celebration today in the East End where the Turkey Races will be held. I don’t know if wagering is allowed but it’s a good excuse to get out and get in the holiday mood. On Thanksgiving Day, I’ll make my annual trip to my hometown and join my friend Patty Hotchkiss as she opens her restaurant Patty’s Place at 33 S. Main St. in downtown Canandaigua. From 11a-2p Patty graciously serves anyone who needs a delicious free turkey dinner, including the homeless and veterans, or just anybody who doesn’t have a place to go on the holiday. It’s a holiday ritual that I enjoy greatly. Patty is the sweetest person around. No wonder she was honored by the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce last year for her charitable giving. She is what the holiday spirit is all about, giving to others rather than receiving.

If you would like to give to a member of our military who is serving us now, get in the spirit by sharing Holiday Mail for Heroes. Just sign a card and address it to “Dear service member, family or veteran” and pop it in the mail to this address:

Holiday Mail for Heroes

P.O. Box 5456

Capitol Heights MD 20791-5456

The cut off date is Dec. 7 so the mail can be delivered in time for the holidays. Your card will be sent to one of 1.4 million members of our military, or one of the 24 million veterans that the Red Cross estimates is still alive today. It takes very little time to make somebody’s day, and it will make you feel good at the same time. There is a limit of 50 cards per envelope received, so it makes a great school class project for the kids so they remember those who sacrifice for us. God bless our troops and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I spent the entire weekend hangin’ with our loyal Buzz listeners, and it was a blast. Started Fri afternoon by meeting Will Cole, a devoted member of the US Army who was home from Iraq visiting his dad Bill while on holiday leave. Thanks to Will for his volunteer service to America. I had to buy him a drink at the Sports Page to thank him properly, right? Mission accomplished. Will left this morning at 0700 to return to the fight. God bless him and get home safely soldier! After our short meeting, I ventured out to Bushnell’s Basin for the Singles Mingle. What a great party: plenty of lovely ladies, great tunes from Uncle Plum and Boodahood and lots of happy people getting in the proper holiday spirit.

Saturday I made my first trip ever to Elba NY. My loyal farming audience in Genesee Co. has been inviting me to join them out at the Stumblin Inn in Elba for about a year now. Finally I had a Saturday free to head northwest and get in on the action in Elba. It was awesome! Joined the Official Onion Farmer of the Workday Buzz Droid and his entire Starowitz family as we rocked to the sweet music pumped out by Savage Cabbage. To be honest, I was expecting a little garage band but I was blown away by how good these boys were. I enjoyed everything out in Elba from the chilled Coors Lights, the music, the lovely women including Lisa, Terri and Darlene from Genesee Co. ARC who heard us talking about it on the Buzz, the hospitality of Mayor Stork and his bro Jim who own the Stumblin Inn, the deep conversation I got into with MudMan, Mark the Redneck, Mike the Contractor (everybody had a title)…the whole atmosphere! It turned out better than expected and I promise all my new buds out in Elba that I shall return. I love the kindness and hospitality you receive in a small town. Thanks to all next door in Genesee Co.

On Sunday I hopped on the Thurway and cruised east to Geneva to join the football crew at Gallaghers Irish Pub. Brandy and Scooter, Christine and Rich, House Mouse and his dedicated Marine pop, Roach and Jud, Sgt. Pete and Amy the Giants fan….it was a room full of characters. We shared a few cold ones and lots of laughs while watching the Bills fumble another one away. At least Buffalo entertained us this week and was in the game, as compared to recent efforts. All in all, it was a superior weekend for me. I got to meet many of the people that listen to the Buzz on a regular basis. As we begin this Thanksgiving week, I am thankful for people who are so loyal and devoted to our little station here. No matter where you listen, I certainly appreciate you keeping me employed. From Roch>Pittsford>Elba>Geneva, God bless you for listening and God bless our troops like Will Cole from the Army!

What a mess this whole H1N1 debacle has turned out to be. On Thursday, hundreds of people stood out in the cold rain for hours waiting to receive their shot and hoping they won’t be exposed to the Swine Flu. Things seemed a bit disorganized at the former IQ Mall, now also the former Medley Center. Here’s 5 locations to get a free shot Saturday from 10a-6p:

>> Blue Cross Arena

>> Lake Ridge Center (all the former malls in one in IQ)

>> Penfield Town Hall

>> West End Business Center on West Ave. in the city

>> First Bible Baptist Church in Hilton

Speaking of shots, keep you eyes open out in the country this weekend because gun shooting season gets underway for the hunters Saturday morning at sunrise. White tail deer will be on the run from Crockett and all the Barney Fyfes out there. Don’t shoot yourself in the leg with your one bullet…

And speaking of the country, I’ll be wandering out to Elba in Genesee County Saturday night to enjoy the fine music of my onion farmers from Elba in the band known as Savage Cabbage. I’ll be posted at the Stumblin Inn in beautiful downtown Elba for a night with my boy Droid and all the hard working farmers from the country who are loyal to the Workday Buzz. Shoot me now Lord cuz I’m goin’ to Heaven…or Elba, whichever comes first!

And speaking of Heaven, I hope the Lord keeps an eye out for our ladies and gents from the military who face deadly shots on a daily basis during this holday season. God bless our troops.

So the Bills finally listened to their long suffering fans and canned coach Dick Jauron Tuesday afternoon, as first blogged about by Dem Jones. I’m sure most sane people feel this was at least 9 months late, but at least owner Ralph Wilson appears to be paying attention to his fan base, even in his 90’s. Ahhhh, the 90’s. What a great time that was to be a Bills fan. We had the coach (Marv Levy), the GMs (Bill Polian and John Butler) the players (Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Darryl Talley, Bruce Smith etc.), we had the playoffs (“PLAYOFFS, WHAT PLAYOFFS”?), we had 4 consecutive Super Bowl teams! Man, that seems like another era. Specifically, another decade, which of course it was. Leading to my point: a new decade is upon us as 2009 winds down. A decade of losing will fade and hopefully lead into a new decade of fun and hope for Bills fans. Who knows how well Perry Fewell will do as coach? He doesn’t have the players that we had during the glory, whorey days of Super Bowls and playoff runs. The cupboard seems a bit empty of talent. But the new coach brings at least a fresh style…hope…maybe some energy on the sidelines. And, he can’t do any worse than the coaches the Bills tried and failed with in the recent past (Gregg Williams, Mike Mularky, Jauron). So let’s give him a shot. If the Bills luck out and win some games, good for coach Fewell. If not, we start a new decade with a brand new coach, hopefully one who has a playoff and Super Bowl background, like Gruden, Dungy, Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren…hell there seems to be more unemployed winning Super Bowl coaches than there is employed Super Bowl coaches. So, with Ralph rightfully pulling the plug on the Jauron era, maybe that ends the decade on a positive note. (by the way, if you want to argue if ‘09 is really the last year of the decade or ‘10, I don’t really care…it’s just a good reason to proclaim the decade of failure over). God bless all Bills fan for remaining loyal and still filling the stadium on game day even though there hasn’t been much to cheer for. And God bless those loyal soldiers who fill their boots everyday to do work that started on a very sad note on a perfectly sunny day in NYC much earlier in this decade on September 11th, 2001. God bless our troops!

I was watching the NBC Sunday Night Football game last night at the Sports Page on Monroe Ave. with Keith Friel of the Razorsharks basketball team. He and I made a friendly wager on the game because Keith is a life long New England fan. Winner gets free dinner and drinks at our favorite restaurant Grinnells on Monroe in Brighton. So, 2 minutes to go, Patriots up by 6 and appear to be on their way to delivering the Colts their first loss of the season. 4th down and 2 yards to go at the Patriots own 29-yard-line. 98% of the NFL coaches would elect to punt the ball so the Colts would need to go 70 -80 yards to pull out the game in the last 2 minutes. But genius coach Bill Belichick decides to go for the first down. Long story short> the Colts stop the Pats, get the ball at the 30 and of course drive for the winning touchdown and win by one! I won my bet and will dine on Keith’s MVP tab….but more importantly, my theory that the NFL is rigged was proven again. Everything that happened at that moment in the game made absolutly no sense at all. Mingia, what a league! Maybe even the Bills wouldn’t have screwed that one up!

So, while drooling in anticipation of my free meal to come at Grinnells, let’s not forget the most important leasson today: God bless our troops! Nothin’ rigged about that!

My bud Connor Henderson, stud hoops player for St. John Fisher alerted me to a cool event going on @ SJF this Sunday. Thanks to the inspiration of the kids in Dr. Todd Harrison’s class, the first Cardinal Race for Courage will begin Sunday morning at 10am on the Fish campus. All proceeds will benefit the great work done at Camp Good Days & Special Times, one of my fave places. So that might inspire you to commit some $ to the cause, or there’s another alterior motive if you’re still a Bills fan. Dr. Todd teams up with my good bud Steve Saluzzo to run the Buffalo Bills training camp at SJF every summer. So, make a donation, participate in the event or volunteer to help and I’m sure you’ll get some good suck up points with the good ol’ Doc Todd! There will be a certified 5K run, a 2K campus walk and a kids fun run. Lots of fun and refreshments to follow. Help out my boy Connor and Dr. Todd’s prized students by logging onto: www.cardinalraceforcourage.com. God bless ‘em for helping the Camp Good Days kids and God bless our troops.

Wednesday Nov. 4, 2009 I received via mail a notice from the City of Rochester Parking Violations Bureau informing me that I received a parking ticket on Friday Oct. 23, 2009 at 11:14am on East Ave. Imagine my surprise because there is absolutely no chance that could be correct, due to the following reasons: a) I was inside the Entercom Radio building from 9:15am until 3:30pm on 10/23/09, as witnessed by my boss and numerous co-workers. b) The Entercom Radio HQ is located at the corner of Commercial St. and Mill St., in the area affectionately known as High Falls. This area is on the opposite side of the river from East. Ave. downtown. c) I broadcast my show The Workday Buzz Mon. – Fri. from 10am-3pm. d) My vehicle is always parked right outside our Buzz studio at a metered parking spot so I can keep a close eye on it, due to the fact there has been a rash of vehicle break-ins in this area. e) I am not married so have no wife who drives my vehicle and I NEVER let anyone drive it. I am the sole driver. Therefore, there obviously was a mistake made when this ticket was attributed to my vehicle. I am organizing my witness list because it is time to fight City Hall and “the man” (known as the Parking Violations Bureau). If you were listening to me on 10/23/09 between 11am and 11:30am, feel free to reply and I’ll add you to my witness list for the epic trial to come. God bless our workday listeners and God bless our troops.

Special Olympics has always been one of my pet causes. Today you can grab some chow from a cop and help out the Special Olympians at the same time. Here’s the scoop:

APPLEBEE’S TEAMS UP WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT

TO WIN BIG FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Greater Rochester, New York – On Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 from 4:30-8:30pm, law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to “serve” and protect to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays to assist servers at the Applebee’s across Western New York! Donations will benefit Special Olympics New York and the Law Enforcement Torch Run®. The Torch Run is part of a year-round, grassroots fundraising campaign by law enforcement agencies to benefit their local Special Olympics Program. New York State Police, Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Rochester Police Department, New York State Department of Corrections, and New York State Parole are among others who will be participating in this unique fundraising event.

Law Enforcement will be on hand at 6 Applebee’s across The Greater Rochester Area and will be greeting customers and helping out the wait staff. Law Enforcement will be in action at more than 30 Applebee’s locations statewide in hopes to raise thousands of dollars for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.

Special Olympics is an international year-round program of sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. More than 47,000 athletes in New York train and compete in 22 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. There are thousands of athletes from the Western New York are who participate in training clubs and competitions throughout the year. Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with other athletes, their families and the community. There is no cost to participate in Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fund-raising and public-awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world. Each year officers carry the Flame of Hope through the streets of their hometowns and countries and deliver it to their local, state, or national Special Olympics Games.

In 2008, more than $1 million was raised for the athletes of Special Olympics New York through the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Hope you enjoy your extra hour of partying this weekend! Yes, don’t forget to change your clock back at 2am Sunday morning. Whoever came up with this idea years ago to set the clocks at 2am must have been a boozer so they could get another hour under their belt. It’s a little spooky that the changeover occurs on Halloween night. Like we need another hour of stupidity on this night! It doesn’t happen very often so live large and leave somebody in charge of the wheel.

Here’s a cute idea for a Halloween costume. While scanning the tube for the World Series pre-game last night, I stumbled upon Entertainment Tonight. Mary Hart is still there doing celebrity interviews. Her chit-chat Thursday night was with Chastity Bono….I mean Chaz Bono. You see Sonny and Cher’s adorable little girl from their glory days on TV has grown up to become a……man named Chaz. sHE has udergone a sex change. Or, as Mary Hart now calls it “a gender re-assignment’! Gender re-assignment? Who re-assigned those parts? Chaz has been taking hormone shots since March, had her/his breasts removed and has quite the husky voice now. Hey, whatever trips your trigger tiger. Just remember when you open your door Saturday night, if you hear a deep throated TRICK OR TREAT, you never know who/what could be standing in front of you and what’s under that costume. Happy Halloweeny.

To those much less freaky amongst us, let’s remember our troops this weekend who everyday face real threats and spooky situations. We been losing too many of our courageous military this week. God bless our troops in harm’s way.

Thanks to my listeners in the southern tier who listen to us on-line here @ rochesterbuzz.com. They tipped me off Thursday to the big fire in Alfred, displacing 13 students. No worries though cuz the liquor store was saved! Firefighters do have their priorities! Luckily no one was injured thanks to those smoke eaters doing their jobs. I had reports on the Buzz throughout my show, and here’s the full scoop courstesy of the local paper down in Alfred. www.eveningtribune.com. I love how our listeners are spread all over the globe and y’all keep me updated on what’s happening while you’re tuned into the Buzz. I think this internet thing is gonna stick around for awhile…

While we’re at it, can the Octomom please fade away? Have you seen her Halloween family photo. I won’t display it here cuz I’m sick of her 15 minutes of fame. She dressed herself up as a pregnant nun and her 8 kids as little devils. How cute, huh? What’s the over/under on how many years of therapy those poor kids are going to be subjected to?

Yankees really need a win tonight, don’t they? I watched the whole game last night and pitcher Cliff Lee from the Phillies was in total command, and just needed the help of Chase Utley’s two homers to take the advantage in the World Series 1-0. After tonight, the next 3 games shift to Philly so the Yanks better pull it out or many fans will take the pipe (A*Rod, you listening while you’re playing with Kate Hudson?). And kids, a little tip from your boy Mayor: STAY OFF THE PIPE! Do the right thing, be courageous. Like our military. We lost more soldiers yesterday in Afghanistan, more families grieving today. God bless our troops.

I had the extreme honor to be invited to be on the dais for the 52nd Fall Guy Show Charity Roast Dinner honoring Rich Funke from News 10NBC Mon. night at the Rochester Plaza Hotel. This is an annual tradition sponsored by the Saints and Sinners Club, a fund raiser for the Dream Factory of Roch. that fulfills dreams for kids ages 3 through 18 who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses. It really was an honor for me to join the head table as we hurled insults towards the legendary sportscaster/newsman. Rich is a very good sport who endured a few hours of hell with verbal warfare lobbed by Don Alhart and Doug Emblidge of Channel 13, Brother Wease, Steve Hausmann from WBEE, Dan Mason from the Red Wings GM office, Pat McGonigle from News10 and myself. It was a great night of laughs, all for the tremendous work done by the Dream Factory. Rich and his wife Pat ooooooze class and are a well deserving couple to be honored for all they do for our area. I thank everybody from Saints and Sinners for letting me be part of it, Rich for inviting me, and all in the audience who had to put up with me on the mic. God bless Rich for his charity work and God bless our troops.

Everyday they face imminent danger and we must always thank them for their service and sacrifice. Like Daniel Rivera, a 2005 graduate of Canandaigua Academy who lost his life serving in the US Army in Iraq. Calling hours for Daniel are set for Tuesday from 6p-9p at the Crawford funeral home on Winton Rd. There will be a private burial for his family. God bless him for taking on a difficult assignment and ultimately paying the price. God bless all of our troops.

I admit that I am a complete geek about Section 5 football playoff action! Take your pick of exciting high school football games this weekend: Friday it’s East @ Webster Schroeder and Brockport @ Gates-Chili in Class AAA. My boys from Canandaigua travel north to our arch-rival Victor in Class A, while Athena hits the road for Honeyoe Falls-Lima. McQuaid, still smarting from last weeks overtime loss to Aquinas, hosts Arcadia and over in Class B the big matchup is Livonia @ #1 Pal-Mac at 7. Saturday in AA, Pittsford will give it a shot at upsetting R-H @ 2pm, followed by Marshall @ Kimbelry’s Hitlon at 7. Easteridge rolls down rt. 104 towards Aquinas in an afternoon Class A battle. Have to tell you I’m more fired up for these games than watching the Bills play the Panthers in Carolina Sunday. I will be travelling down the Thruway to join my nephew Dylan Pinto in the ‘Cuse while his college SU plays at the Dome Sat. afternoon. My boy Dylan is a great kid and I’ll celebrate Parents Weekend with him and his bodacious mom Tracy and papa Steven in the ‘Cuse. God bless them and God bless our troops.
