Random thoughts while wearing my mask to avoid being pigged….

– what will I buy with the $220 mil I’m gonna win?  All I know is you better keep an eye for me on the town if I hit it, cuz then everybody wins!

– is the legendary Finger Lakes horse Zippy Chippy still alive?  That was one lovable loser of a horse. Guess you better not put any money on the ol’ Zipster for the Kentucky Derby Sat. afternoon.

– speaking of which, why do all those rich ol’ babes wear those big ass hats and drink mint julips at the Derby?  They must get drunk on those things to wear those ugly hats.

– how many people will lose their imagination at Imagine RIT on the campus this Sat.? I imagine all the smart kids will be there.

– what life on the road is really like for people in the circus?  Now that the Greatest Show on Earth is at the Jeff Calkins War Memorial this weekend, are the clowns really that happy all the time? I’ll have to ask my boys Mikey and Andrew Avadisian who checked out all the fun the other night..

– how did Monroe County get a “F” in air quality?  Kodak has down-sized, can we upgrade our air now?

– why does New York state have to get more money out of us by raising taxes on beer and wine as of Friday?  Gov. Patterson: don’t you tax us enough buddy?  Give us a break Guv……..

– why some people don’t show their full support for our true American heroes 24/7/365? God bless our troops!

I can’t imagine what the parents of Brittanee Drexel are going through.   Britanee is the 17-year-old Chili teen who has been missing since Saturday night.   She was vacationing with friends in Myrtle Beach and disappeared while walking.  Her mother, boyfriend and other friends are in Myrtle Beach searching for her. Being the parent of a 17-year-old and 13-year-old, this is my worst nightmare.   I know as a parent one of my biggest jobs is to make sure my kids are safe.   As they get older, this becomes more difficult but it doesn’t stop me from trying.   If they are staying overnight with a friend, I try to call that friend’s parents to make sure they are in the “know.”   Yes my kids think I’m being over protective but that doesn’t stop me from doing it.   Am I the only parent with a knot in my stomach 24/7.   Some days it’s the size of a peanut, with stories of a child disappearing, it’s the size of a basketball.   May we all pray for the the safe return of Brittanee Drexel.  Until then, the supersized knot remains in my stomach.   Thanks for reading my blog and I’ll see you tomorrow morning on the radio.

Just met a great guy who is proof positive that all athletes aren’t criminals or bad guys.  Autry Denson played college football at Notre Dame, where he is the all-time leading rusher with 4,318 career yards. He then went on to spend 5 quality seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.  After his playing days were over, he is now a financial advisor in the Ft. Lauderdale area and formed his own foundation to help others.  Check him out at www.runforyourgoal.com or www.autrydenson.com. He’s in town to help raise money for his foundation and RPD Officer Tony DiPonzio.  After speaking with Autry on the air, I know how much he appreciates Tony and what’s he’s gone through.  Autry recruited a number of his friends to help him raise money for Anthony.  Here’s a list of some of the events scheduled over the next few days.  It’s not only a great chance to meet some of our heroes like Hall-of-Famer Thurman Thomas and ND greats like Autry and QB Tony Rice, but you’ll be assisting Tony’s incredible comeback.

*** Thursday a Playstation 3 tournament and celebrity bartending at Tribeca Nightclub in High Falls.

*** Friday more of the same at Tribeca.

*** Saturday from 8p-12a a special meet-n-greet party with the celebs, including those mentioned above along with NBA legend Rick Barry, stars  John Owens from ND and the Seattle Seahawks, Justin Tuck from ND and the NY Giants, Ryan Grant from ND and the Green BayPackers, Jarius Jackson,  pro beach volleyball player Angie Akers, Bertrand Berry from ND and the Arizona Cardinals, former WNBA player Octavia Blue, Allen Rossum from ND and the San Fran 49ers and actress Sanaa Lathan from Nip/Tuck.

*** Sunday evening there will be a celebrity basketball game at St. John Fisher’s Varsity Gym at 6:30 vs. the Rochester Police Dept.

You can get tickets for any of these important fundraisers for Tony @ www.superstarexperience.com.  Sounds like a great week.  I can’t tell you how impressed I am by Autry Denson’s fine charitable work.  It’s good to see some athletes “get it” and make up for the spoiled, pampered brats that we are so familiar with.  God bless Tony for his work and God bless our troops.

I surprised Sugar Lips, my girlfriend, with an early birthday gift.   Picked her up on Friday afternoon and took her to Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Discovered a couple of things about her.   She gets car sick so she drove. Not a problem.   Sometimes it’s good to be a passenger.   Plus, she has a much better sense of direction than I do.

We stayed at the Pillar and Post.   I would highly recommend it.   Got a package that included a very nice room with a fireplace.   We also had a delicious meal at the Pillar and Post restaurant.   The salmon is delicious.  Served over mashed potatoes with spinach.   It was really one of the best pieces of salmon I’ve ever had.   After that we enjoyed their natural springs outdoor hot tub.   It features a waterfall.   Maybe it was a little to relaxing since we went back to our room and fell asleep.    The next morning we had 9 o’clock massages.   If you’ve never had a massage, you’re missing out on one of the greatest things you can do for yourself.     After that, we headed back to Rochester but not before we stopped in Buffalo to have lunch at the Cheesecake Factory.  I know we’re in a recession but you could never tell it by the number of people I see eating out.   The place was packed.   The only downside of the weekend was that Sugar Lips got a stomach virus on Saturday following the massage and couldn’t shake it until late Sunday night.  Overall, it’s an easy 90-minute drive from Rochester and I know I’ll return to the Pillar and Post soon.   If you want a romantic getaway, give them a call and impress the lady in your life.    Thanks for reading my blog and I’ll see you tomorrow morning on the radio.

I was at Nolas doing my famous “COUGAR NIGHT” appearance on Friday night and met this great guy named Doug.  Doug came out to say hello and to enjoy the lovely weather last Friday.  He brought his wife Tenley with him.  He came up to me and handed my a gift bag.  Now we talk about a lot of stuff on the morning show.  However, last Sept or October I was telling a story about special spoons Chloe had to eat her cereal with and how we had misplaced some of them.  They were Trix cereal spoons that were from the 70’s.  Spoons that came inside the cereal boxes.  Remember when cereal came with great stuff?  I know..I do too :)   Anyhow, we lost two of the spoons and I was looking on Ebay to buy some more but someone got on at the last minute of the auction and jacked the price on the two spoons I wanted to a hideous price.  So I was talking about it on the air..then forgot all about  it.  Well Doug was listening that morning as he always does and thought “hey, I’m going to see if I can get those”  He has held on to them since about November and finally had the chance to get out and see me at an appearance.  Thank YOU Doug.  You made my night and Chloe LOVED the spoons.  this just goes to show how great our listeners are..by the way..Doug is recovering from Cancer and is semi-retired..best of luck to you man…It was a pleasure to meet you and your beautful wife!

What a weekend!  Had a blast in Canandaigua Friday with my hometown bros. touring from the swanky Canandaigua Country Club (doin’ hangtime with my high school basketball coaches Phil Andrews and Mel Pierce, along with my CA A*Team of Mike & Terry Sheridan, John Parkhurst, and Sally and Ken Buck) to Blood Alley and beyond.  Saturday afternoon I was invited to the even swankier Oak Hill (for a guy who doesn’t play golf, I spent too much time at country clubs this wknd.) for lunch at the Grill with my cabinet of advisors, led by Rick Altier, Thomas Huber, Mark O’Connor, and John Post.  The sun was beckoning us north to Olies on the shore for the NFL draft party.  What a day on the beautiful north coast of America!  85* and sunny, the place was packed with people thirsty for summer fun.  Later, I joined a group of thrill seekers (including some gorgeous, hot ladies)in a limo as we took the Razorsharks championship trophy on the official Dive Bar Tour of the area.  First off, I am not a fan of limos at all.  You end up stuffed inside a car being yelled at by people who somehow feel they are your boss.  But it is a safe mode of transportation and no one ends up injured or arrested.  The DB Tour motored from Carrolls Pub on Main St, to Steco on Clifford Ave, off to the Doghouse on Ridge, down to Mt. Read Blvd. for stops at Molly Malones and My Apartment, a great swing to Casey Jones on Ridgeway and finally to the Sports Page on Monroe. If you do the math, that’s 7 stops with no trouble.  Nicely played.

Condolences to the family of Jack Slattery who passed away last week.  Attended Jack’s wake at Grey’s Funeral Home in Gates Sunday afternoon.  A retired firefighter for the RFD, Jack was a true gentle man.  He and his wonderful irish family are in my thoughts and prayers.  After paying my respects, I took in the Red Wings victory at Frontier Field.  Not only did the Wings pound the Yankees 7-3, but I almost caught a foul ball that came whisking towards section 102.  I was t-h-i-s  c-l-o-s-e to finally snagging a ball after being a Wings fan my whole life. Of course, as my buddy Josh Wetzell (the play-by-play announcer) told me later”you almost caught the ball?  Big deal!  Almost doesn’t count!”  Thanks for shooting down my dream Josh.  God bless my favorite team the Red Wings and God bless our troops.
