Have you ever seen the movie High Fidelity? It’s probably one of my favorite films of all time, and not just because Jack Black is friggin’ hilarious in it. In my opinion it is the ultimate emotional guy movie. One of my favorite things about the movie is how they make top 5 lists for everything. That being said, I wanted to give you my top 5 movies from the 1990’s. Now I know High Fidelity is not a 90’s movie, but that decade had so many good ones that I couldn’t help but ponder the question… so here are my top 5 movies from the 1990’s…

5. The Proffesional 1994

4. Office Space 1999

3. The Sandlot 1993

2. Braveheart 1995

1. Fight Club 1999

We have made it to the final weekend of January.  Soooooo glad this cold, snowy month is over.  Even though hope and change arrived this month in DC, the rest of it has been a downer for many.  Layoffs, bad economic news everyday, crappy weather.  It all combined for one long-ass month. With the end of January comes the end of my beer drinking.  See, every year I take the month of February off from boozin’.  My friends always ask the vital question: “WHY?  Is this for Lent?”  Well, here’s my reasoning (some say it’s warped thinking by the way):  1) To prove to myself I can do it.  2) I go to the Harro East gym everyday and get in mad shape.  3) I prepare myself for the world’s greatest holiday> St. Patty’s Day, coming soon to an irish pub near you. and, drum roll please: 4) February is the shortest month!  Lent is 40 long days, Feb. has 28.  So, I begin my annual sabattical the day after the Stupor Bowl every year.  So, from Feb. 2 – Mar. 2, the liver gets a break.  So this weekend will be one to remember.  I’ll share my adventures here Monday as the cleansing begins.

If you get a chance, check out this mornings Democrat & Chronicle sports section.  On the front page there is an article about Section 5’s high school hockey “Tough Guys”.  I am proud to report that my nephew (by love, not by blood) Ryan Sheridan, son of Robin and Terry Sheridan is one of the featured Tough Guys.  I love his quote…”It’s a great feeling to be called the enforcer on the team, but it’s not really a job, it’s a privilege.”  That’s my man!  God bless Ryan, all the Sheridans and most importantly God bless our troops!

Praise the film gods for finally realizing the world can wait no longer to see The A-Team on the big screen!  That’s right kids, there’s finally gonna be an A-Team movie.  I can’t wait!  I wonder if they’ll bring back George Peppard, Mr T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz?  I’m guessing they won’t, but it would be cool if they all made some sort of cameo appearance.

Did you know you can see the old show right here on the same screen you’re looking at right now?  Check it oot!

I’m sure that you remember the wonderful feeling when you were a kid, and you’d turn on the radio and hope to hear that your school was closed due to the snow.  Going to bed the night before a big snowfall, I would always sneak an extra prayer in, hoping for a snow day in the morning.  Granted, I went to St. Mary’s catholic school so I didn’t think my prayer would be answered very often, but when it was, what a grand day!  I’d wake up and listen to our local CA station WCGR waiting and waiting for George or Russ Kimble to give me the breaking news I was on edge for: school is closed!  Yeah man!  Thank you God.  Then I’d go back to sleep for awhile.  Then get up and eat tomato soup and peanut butter-n-jelly sandwiches (pre-salmonella scares) while watching Bob Barker on The Price Is Right.  I always thought Holly (the hot red-headed model on TPIR) was looking at me specifically (she wanted me, at least that’s what I thought in grade school).  Then, after choking on the Showcase Showdown, it was off to play outside with my buddies, hitting the sled and cranking down the back alley behind our house at 48 N. Main St.  I swear I could get that sled rollin’ down the hill towards the railroad tracks at 100 miles per hour.  As I’ve said many times before, I’m lucky to be alive!  Anyway, we’d spend all day playng and having the absolute best time possible.  Point being: I know how kids are loving this snow today, and they’ll be praying tonight for a snow day again tomorrow.

We constantly update our school closings and delays here at rochesterbuzz.com, thanks to Dee Alexander and Jon Spinder. So, always check in here for updates as we receive them from schools and businesses around Rochester.  Thank God for those snow days I remember so fondly, and please God, bless our troops!

I watched men beat each other up this past Saturday in a giant cage on an indian reservation in Irving NY.  Never saw that one coming, huh?  I was invited to watch a friend of mine compete in Mixed Martial Arts. MMA is a combination of boxing and wrestling.  It was quite a spectacle and I can honestly say I’ve never been to anything like it.  My bud Donny (a former state high school wrestling champion) was the featured bout and he did not disappoint.  He clearly won the match in front of a sold out crowd at the Gil Lay Memorial Auditorium on the Seneca Alleghany Reservation off Route 5 outside of Buffalo.  It was an interesting sight, an event that is hard to describe in mere words.  Let’s just say we had a hell of a celebration in downtown Buffalo after it was over.  We did quite a tour of that fine town, from Allen St. to Delaware Ave. to Franklin Place and W. Chippewa St.  It was well worth the ride, certainly a festive night on the streets of western NY.  Not sure if I’ll venture back into the MMA crowd, but there’s nothing wrong with new adventures, right?

I did notice there was some military guys in the audience at the bouts.  Now there are some real tough guys, people who volunteer to lay it all on the line, to protect and serve us. They are appreciated. God bless our troops!

Last Tuesday, I celebrated the inauguration of Barack Obama by searching out a beer brewed in his honor.

See it all in the video blog!

Many thanks to Bruce, Mark, and everyone at Tap & Mallet for their help.

(When I say help, I mean pulling a tap handle and holding a glass under it)

Had a grand time hangin’ with all our Buzz listeners at the sold out Singles Mingle 7 Friday night.  The Burgundy Basin was jumpin, beers were cold, women were hot!  Perfect way to kick into the party spirit for 2009. I brought along my 315 crew of Jason, Jay and “Jared  from Subway” (maybe not his true identity).  They helped me keep a watchful eye on Kimberly from the Breakfast Buzz.  Kimberly was struttin’ her stuff, gleeming ear-to-ear with a smile as bright as her new engagement ring!  She was in her glory, towing along her new hubby-to be Mt. Morris (may also not be his real ID).  It was quite the freak show as the crowd rocked and danced to 50/50 and Download.  I had the pleasure of watching a group of beautiful women bond.  It all started Friday afternoon when I received a call at 222-BUZZ from “Jill in Fairport”.  She told me on air the very sad tale that her friend Cheryl was shut out of the Singles Mingle because she failed to buy a ticket before they all sold out at Wegmans.  Another loyal listener Elaine heard this sad story and emailed me here at rochesterbuzz.com.  She made a generous offer to sell her extra ticket at face value to the ladies from Fairport, with the only stipulation being that Elaine could join them at the party. She did not want to go alone and she is going through a seperation.  So, “Jill from Fairport” heard me read Elaine’s generous offer on air, called me back, I gave her Elaines contact info, and wah-lah, new best friendships were formed! They all partied and danced together. An alliance of beautiful women brought together by The Mayor.  What a pimp I have turned out to be for the new BFFs.  Maybe one of my better hookups, and I wasn’t even the beneficiary.  Long story short: you never know who you’ll meet at the Buzz Singles Mingle, so get your tickets now at Wegmans for Singles Mingle 8 coming back to Eagle Vale Feb. 27.  I can guarentee many beautiful people will be there having a great time.  Why not you?

Tomorrow I’ll share my vivid recollection of the rest of the weekend, which included a trip to Buffalo for MMA.  What’s that?  Please check back tomorrow for more details to follow.  Until then, God bless our troops.

For those of you who are video game freaks like me you’ll be happy to know Metallica is getting their own Guitar Hero game all to their lonesome. Aerosmith was the first band in the series to get a game featuring only them, which was cool. This should be even better seeing James Hetfield designed the storyline himself. Of course, maybe I’m wrong assuming that… I guess as long as Lars keeps his greedy ass hands off the project it should turn out sweet! If you want to read more about Guitar Hero: Metallica, CLICK HERE…(This where I found out about it)
